India ad rollout ahead of OpenAI IPO plans
Ahead of a potential IPO, OpenAI is expanding its ChatGPT advertising program to India, targeting free‑tier users and those on the ₹399‑per‑month Go tier. Ads will appear below the chatbot’s answers, clearly labelled, while paid tiers (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Education) remain ad‑free. The company emphasizes that it will not sell individual chat histories, memories or personal data; advertisers will receive only aggregated performance metrics. Ads will be blocked for minors and for answers that touch on sensitive subjects such as health, mental health or politics. More than 50 advertisers are expected to go live soon, and a self‑service Ad Manager will launch on September 4, allowing daily budgets from ₹725.
