Former IIL chairperson Vartika Shukla recalled that in FY 2013‑14, Indian petrol contained just 1.5% ethanol. The government's target was to raise this figure to 20% under the E20 program.
Originally slated for December 2025, the target was achieved five years early through a meticulously planned rollout involving extensive stakeholder consultation. The program rests on scientific evidence and testing by ARAI, SIAM, and individual carmakers.
These initiatives align with international best practices aimed at cutting carbon output and supporting India's decarbonisation agenda.
