Greater Noida PNB Account Irregularities Under Investigation

A investigation is underway at a Punjab National Bank branch in Greater Noida following growing concern over alleged irregularities in fixed deposit and savings accounts. The bank has said that it is treating the complaints seriously and that Rs 43 lakh in claims has been settled up to this point.

In a message shared on social media on Friday, the bank confirmed that the matter is being probed on a priority basis. It said it is working closely with the agencies involved and is taking necessary steps to verify facts, measure the extent of the alleged irregularities and address the difficulties faced by affected customers.

The bank has settled three claims so far, totalling Rs 43 lakh. It has given an assurance that all authentic and legitimate claims will be respected and that customer interests will be fully protected.

PNB restated its zero-tolerance stance on financial fraud, irregularities and misconduct. The bank said any person found to be involved will face strict action under established rules and procedures.

The bank also said it remains committed to securing customer interests, improving the transparency of its operations and reinforcing internal control frameworks so that such events are not repeated.

The development comes after several customers of the Sector P-1 branch in Greater Noida alleged that significant sums were withdrawn from their accounts without permission. Some of the affected account holders say the missing amounts reach as high as crores of rupees.

According to customers, the branch's entire staff was replaced after the issue came to light, and they were assured that the necessary steps were being taken to resolve the matter.

A customer named Sonu said that around Rs 90 lakh had gone missing from his account. He stated that bank officials had shared information about the reasons behind the shortfall and had promised that the money would be returned.

Rahul said that roughly Rs 51 lakh had been taken from his mother's account without authorisation. He added that since the account was not linked to any mobile number, the family did not receive transaction alerts.

Sonu Sagar alleged that his father's account contained nearly Rs 88 lakh, which later declined to just Rs 1,290. He claimed the alleged embezzlement had been ongoing for several years.

Affected customers have filed police complaints. Some account holders said that after raising concerns, they were asked by bank officials to return after a day or two. When they visited the branch later, senior officers were not present and normal banking operations were also affected.

The bank's probe is continuing, and customers have been assured that every complaint will be examined and suitable action taken.
