Government Employment Fairs Issue Over 1.27 Million Job Letters, Unemployment Cuts in Half

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on September 20 that a series of nationwide employment fairs has handed out more than 1,275,000 appointment letters, helping push the unemployment rate down from six percent to just 3.2 percent. The minister linked this achievement to a suite of flagship initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, Stand‑up India and the Mudra loan scheme, which together have spurred start‑up formation, increased youth participation and amplified women’s involvement across space, defence, education and governance. Start‑ups have multiplied from roughly 400 in 2014 to beyond 250,000, with a significant proportion of founders under 30. Emphasis on continuous skill development, technology adoption and professional up‑skilling were cited as essential ingredients. New civil service entrants were urged to treat their roles as a national service duty, aligning personal responsibility with the country's ambition to become a developed nation by 2047.
