Government Boosts Coconut Sector with Financial Aid and New Schemes
The Indian government is intensifying its support for the coconut industry through a series of financial and policy measures. For the 2025-26 fiscal year, the Ministry allocated ₹632.77 million to facilitate the creation and maintenance of new coconut orchards, a step intended to raise long‑term production capacity.
The Coconut Development Board (CDB) received a budget of ₹14,721 million to implement its wide‑range of development programmes. These include targeted interventions for value addition, export promotion, and farmer livelihood enhancement.
The 2026-27 central budget introduced the Coconut Enhancement Scheme, which focuses on sustainability, export growth, and increasing farmer earnings. The scheme also incorporates a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra, the dried kernel of the coconut, ensuring that this essential crop among the 22 covered under the MSP regime receives price protection.
Additional initiatives target skill development across the entire value chain, encouraging entrepreneurship and the production of high‑value products such as virgin coconut oil, coconut milk, and activated carbon.
Officials emphasized that continuous policy backing is propelling the sector forward in production, value addition, export performance, and livelihood creation.
