Government Bears Fertilizer Cost Surge to Protect Farmers

In a clear message to the farming community, Union Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the Centre is shouldering the entire cost of increased global fertilizer prices. During a media briefing in the capital, he stated that no price pressure has been passed on to Indian farmers, demonstrating the government's priority on agricultural stability. Goyal pointed to India's nine new free trade agreements and Prime Minister Modi's successful diplomatic visits as evidence of the country's growing global influence. These developments have opened new markets and strengthened supply chains across sectors. Addressing concerns over fertilizer availability amid the Middle East crisis, Goyal assured that India has significantly ramped up both domestic output and imports. Current stocks stand at 199.65 lakh metric tonnes, well above the required buffer level. The minister attributed this success to 12 years of targeted reforms and result-oriented policies. He also praised the recent India-Canada trade pact for its potential to boost bilateral investment and long-term agricultural cooperation.
