Google could become second biggest smartphone maker after Samsung

Should the relocation succeed, Google would join Samsung as the only major smartphone vendor that has entirely moved production out of China. Industry observers suggest that this could translate into stronger bargaining power with memory‑chip suppliers such as Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix, especially as Google plans to bundle chip orders for its cloud and hardware divisions.

A component supplier said Google is among the few handset makers that have not cut their shipment targets this year, instead pursuing market‑share gains. The strategy may also benefit the company if Apple raises iPhone prices, opening opportunities for Google in the United States, Japan and Europe.

The broader trend reflects a shift across multinational electronics firms toward diversifying manufacturing away from China toward emerging hubs like India and Vietnam, a move that could boost local economies and export capabilities.
