Gold and Silver Jewelry Lead India's Export Surge to $9.17 Billion

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) reported that India’s gemstone and jewellery exports crossed the $9.17 billion threshold between April and July 2026, a 2.44% rise from the previous year. In rupee terms, the sector earned 87,078.01 crore, up 13.58%.

Gold‑plated jewellery was the standout performer, posting a 21.09% increase to $2.24 billion. Silver‑plated jewellery outpaced all other categories, surging 72.19% to $508.18 million. Platinum jewellery also grew, registering a 17.20% lift to $77.82 million, while polished lab‑grown diamonds added 7.47% to reach $408.50 million. Combined gold jewellery – both plain and set – rose 5.87% to $4.03 billion.

The United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom were the top destinations, providing a robust demand base for India’s value‑added designs. However, the export of cut and polished diamonds fell 8% to $3.60 billion and plain gold jewellery slipped 8.46% to $1.80 billion, pointing to a shift in consumer preferences.

Kirti Bhansali, GJEPC chairman, praised the sector’s resilience and highlighted that the appetite for value‑added gold and silver pieces continues to drive growth. He also hinted that the recent dip in gold prices could further stimulate demand, and that the agreements signed at the IIES India Premier 2026 exhibition are likely to materialise as real export orders in the near future.
