GCCs Positioned as Key Players in ‘Viksit Bharat’ Ambition

In a recent event in New Delhi, Ajay Sharma, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, underscored the strategic importance of Global Capability Centers in realising the ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) target.

He observed that over the past few years GCCs have expanded their scope from low‑cost back‑office services to sophisticated research, product design and innovation activities. This progression has moved them up the value chain, making them integral to the country’s economic engine.

“GCCs have become a vital pillar of the economy. Their evolution from mere support units to research and design hubs reflects a massive transformation,” Sharma remarked.

The official also highlighted the necessity of a whole‑government coordination mechanism, where ministries work in tandem with industry partners to unlock the full potential of GCCs.

“Achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ is not the sole responsibility of the government. It demands active engagement from businesses, academia and other stakeholders, each playing its part in this collective journey.”
