Both firms told to withdraw unsafe food items under 2017 recall rules

In a coordinated enforcement move, the FSSAI directed Neelgiri Oil & Allied Industries and Aquagri Processing Private Ltd. to remove their respective products—coriander powder and Carajainon—from all points of sale. The decision follows laboratory reports that each product failed to meet the safety criteria prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The agency cited the Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017, which require manufacturers to promptly recall unsafe items, retrieve inventory from distributors, and notify consumers. Both companies have been asked to submit a detailed recall plan, including timelines, communication strategies, and measures to prevent future non‑compliance.

These recalls illustrate the growing vigilance of Indian food regulators in monitoring pesticide residues and heavy‑metal contamination, aiming to protect consumers from health hazards.
