Fastag Handles 98% of Toll Collection on National Highways

Government figures reveal that under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme, nearly 98 per cent of total toll revenue on National Highways is now collected via Fastag. The high adoption rate is credited to a secure digital workflow involving the toll management software, the acquiring bank at each plaza, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as the central clearing house, and the bank that issues the Fastag.

This multi‑party architecture ensures that a Fastag transaction cannot be processed without the participation of all three entities, guaranteeing a transparent and tamper‑proof process. Drivers receive immediate confirmation of the deducted amount, and every entry is archived in a centralized database for regulatory oversight.
