Exporters Urged to Focus on Quality, Innovation and New Markets

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has underlined that collective endeavour is essential for enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian goods and services. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustained engagement with industry, saying this will help solidify India's standing as a trusted international trade partner.

During a meeting with the Export Promotion Council in New Delhi on October 29, Goyal reviewed the changing global trade scenario. He cited geopolitical uncertainty, revisions in tariff frameworks, supply chain realignment and new regulatory needs in key overseas markets as forces rapidly altering the business terrain.

According to him, these developments bring difficulties for exporters but also offer India a chance to strengthen its credibility as a competitive and dependable global trading partner.

Goyal encouraged Indian industry to remain nimble and sensitive to the shifting international commercial environment. He asked exporters to give priority to quality improvement, innovation, cost competitiveness, reliable supply and adherence to international norms. These steps, he said, would deepen India's involvement in global value chains.

He observed that the world is taking a closer look at India as a destination for manufacturing, sourcing and investment. Goyal stressed that regular dialogue between Indian businesses and overseas traders is necessary to translate such interest into solid commercial gains.

The minister urged the Export Promotion Council to engage actively with international peers, identify prospective buyers and foster business partnerships across both established and developing markets.

Pointing to changing global demand and emerging supply chain prospects, Goyal said the focus should be on diversifying products and markets. He asked the council to pinpoint items with vast export potential, search for new destinations and devise market-specific plans. He also called for reinforcing India's advantages in traditional sectors while building capabilities in emerging fields.

Goyal referred to ongoing work on easing business operations, strengthening trade infrastructure and tackling the problems confronting exporting enterprises. He described the Export Promotion Mission as a key initiative that would help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) address barriers in export financing, market reach and international competitiveness.
