Experts Highlight Training Gap Amid Rapid Growth of Indian Semiconductor Sector

During a press briefing at the Semiconductor India 2026 summit, speakers highlighted the swift evolution of India's semiconductor ecosystem and the parallel need for focused skill development. Professor Manoj Choudhary pointed out that the sector was virtually nonexistent five years ago, but the ISM 1.0 package, totaling ₹76,000 crore, initiated twelve fab projects that have now entered advanced stages of construction.

He added that modern chips are embedded in everything from high‑speed train doors to sophisticated vehicle sensors, making them indispensable for the nation’s digital infrastructure. To bridge the talent shortage, Gati Shakti University is partnering with Tata to launch a dedicated semiconductor fab construction management program, designed to equip students with the practical expertise required by new manufacturing facilities across India.
