Ethanol in Jet Fuel Claim Dismissed; Safety Remains Top Priority

New Delhi – Rumours that the government intends to blend ethanol into aviation turbine fuel have been officially rejected by the Union Minister for Civil Aviation.

The minister warned that circulating false information about fuel composition can cause unnecessary panic among air travellers.

He noted that ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are two different substances. SAF is an ICAO‑approved, low‑carbon fuel that undergoes extensive performance and safety testing before it can be deployed in commercial fleets.

According to the ministry, no formal proposal to mix ethanol with ATF has been tabled, and any such suggestion is purely speculative.

The clarification arrives as the government reports a significant increase in airport infrastructure, with total passenger handling capacity now over 58 crore per year, driven by continuous development projects under the Airports Authority of India and private stakeholders.
