Early Claims and Technological Adoption Show Positive Results

Since its inception, the PM‑MKSSY insurance programme has attracted 316 applications covering 730.61 hectares of aquaculture land. Of these, 127 applications have been approved, delivering financial aid to farmers cultivating 321.74 hectares and disbursing a total of Rs 40.03 lakh.

The claim process is streamlined: farmers must inform their insurer immediately after a loss event, submit the required documentation, and await assessment by an appointed loss adjuster. Payments are released based on the adjuster’s report, with insurers updating claim status through their online portals. Settlement timelines are set at 30 days for shrimp‑related losses and 45 days for other aquaculture activities.

These early outcomes signal growing confidence among fish farmers, who now have a reliable safety net to mitigate risk and invest in advanced production methods.
