Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has confirmed that all major central government programs concerning science, research, innovation, and startups will now be rolled out in West Bengal without delay. The announcement came after detailed deliberations with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Key outcomes include a specialized study on arsenic toxicity in impacted regions via CSIR institutes and a collaborative research effort on cancer and antimicrobial therapies linking top scientific institutions, medical colleges, cancer hospitals, and AIIMS. Dr. Singh pointed out that West Bengal already hosts a strong network of scientific institutions under the Ministry of Science and Technology that are actively advancing research. He underlined the immense scope for joint innovation projects that connect academia, healthcare infrastructure, and startup ecosystems. The meeting also prioritized the expansion of INSPIRE, Vigyan Jyoti, and KIRAN schemes to encourage more students and women to pursue careers in science and technology. Officials from the state science and technology department and central ministries will soon hold a coordination meeting to finalize an implementation roadmap. This partnership is seen as a blueprint for science-based growth across eastern India.
