Digital Outreach Platform Launched to Combat Rural Diabetes

New Delhi, August 16 — A new digital portal dedicated to rural diabetes outreach was unveiled today by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, alongside the "Vishwas" video library aimed at boosting disease awareness.

The portal is designed to empower village‑level health workers with technology‑enabled tools for screening, record‑keeping, and continuous patient monitoring. Dr. Singh emphasized that a blend of community participation, advanced analytics, and real‑time data sharing can dramatically reduce the incidence and severity of diabetes in agrarian settings.

India’s youth constitute more than 70% of the population, making preventive health a strategic imperative for the country’s long‑term economic outlook. The minister noted that while India has excelled in medical research and digital health innovations, the next frontier is delivering these benefits to the most remote corners of the nation.

The Rural Diabetes Outreach Programme will adopt villages to create a structured pipeline for education, early detection, timely treatment, and long‑term follow‑up. To date, the programme covers around 30 villages spread across several states, with an expansion roadmap targeting hundreds more in the next few years.

Through systematic documentation and outcome tracking, the portal will generate high‑quality evidence to inform future public‑health policies. Accurate rural data will allow researchers to map diabetes patterns, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and develop tailored, evidence‑based solutions for India’s diverse populations.

Dr. Singh called for a collaborative ecosystem involving government agencies, universities, tech firms, private health organisations, and local practitioners. He asserted that only a coordinated, multi‑sectoral strategy can achieve lasting control over diabetes and its complications in rural India.
