Cyber Police Bust Global Crypto Scheme Worth Rs 15 Crore
A major international digital currency fraud network has been dismantled by the Andhra Pradesh CID, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects. The probe uncovered an investment scam worth around 15 crore rupees, involving sophisticated cross-border money laundering techniques.
The investigation was triggered when a woman living in Tenali, Telangana, fell victim to an elaborate phishing and investment deception. Con artists lured her with claims of guaranteed high-yield returns on virtual assets. She complied by depositing her savings into thirteen separate non-custodial crypto wallets. The distribution included a single Robinhood wallet alongside twelve on-chain storage addresses.
As the scheme progressed, she was directed to push her accumulated tokens onto fraudulent trading portals. Operating under a false sense of security, she believed her capital was being professionally managed. In reality, the funds were immediately liquidated and distributed through twenty-seven separate exchanges involving Bitcoin, Solana, and Dogecoin.
The total illicit amount reached roughly 1.5 million US dollars. The criminal group employed complex routing strategies to hide the paper trail, moving the capital through a labyrinth of temporary wallets. The final destination for the laundered digital currency was identified as a corporate exchange entity registered in the Cayman Islands.
Forensic analysts utilized deep blockchain tracing methodologies to peel back the layers of deception. Their technical audit successfully mapped fifteen Bitcoin movements to four specific Gate.io accounts controlled by the syndicate. An immediate judicial intervention ensured all linked digital assets were frozen to prevent further depletion.
The domestic task force collaborated extensively with the national cyber coordination apparatus under the Home Ministry. This high-level partnership provided essential technical infrastructure and diplomatic channels to track the foreign elements. As a direct result of this coordinated push, eight key figures were detained.
The apprehended individuals are residents of Hyderabad, Maharashtra, Malaysia, China, and Portugal. Legal proceedings have advanced rapidly, with a complete charge sheet already lodged in the appropriate tribunal.
Judicial authorities in Guntur have mandated a precise restitution protocol. The designated offshore exchange is ordered to convert all crypto holdings within the four compromised accounts into stablecoins at current market prices. The full converted sum must then be wired directly to a secure wallet provided by the defrauded woman.
Investigators describe this operation as a watershed moment in combating advanced cyber-financial crimes. The successful tracing and recovery mechanism sets a strong precedent for handling complex virtual asset fraud across international borders.
