CTIL’s role highlighted as India seeks to influence evolving international investment law

Justice Narsimha observed that investment law, once focused mainly on protecting foreign capital, now places greater emphasis on regulatory autonomy of states. He argued that the sector is entering a phase where questions of institutional legitimacy, balance between investment protection and public policy, and sustainability are paramount.

CTIL, according to the ministry, has already delivered more than 4,000 legal opinions, participated in negotiations for about ten free‑trade agreements, and contributed to multiple WTO discussions, notifications and dispute‑settlement procedures.
