CSIR’s 85th Foundation Day Highlights Nationwide Lab Openings for Students

New Delhi – The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research will mark its 85th foundation day on 26 September with an unprecedented open‑lab initiative. Across the nation, every CSIR national laboratory and outreach centre will welcome visitors, offering a glimpse into projects ranging from oceanographic surveys and geophysical mapping to chemical synthesis, drug development and advanced nanomaterials. Special sessions for school children will feature live experiments, interactive quizzes and mentoring by senior scientists. The council, which operates the largest research network in India, is chaired by the Prime Minister and overseen by Dr. Jitendra Singh as vice‑chair. Its multidisciplinary research portfolio supports critical areas such as environmental protection, public health, potable water, nutrition, affordable housing, renewable energy and modern agriculture. The public access drive underscores CSIR’s mission to democratise science and build a skilled workforce for the future.
