Biometric lock feature used over 19 million times on Aadhaar mobile app

Privacy and security are central to the Aadhaar app’s design. Since its launch, the biometric lock/unlock utility has been employed more than 1.91 crore (19.1 million) times.

The tool allows Aadhaar holders to instantly secure or release their biometric data, reducing the risk of misuse. By offering a privacy‑first approach, the app reinforces user confidence while complying with data‑protection guidelines.

Officials say the high usage rate demonstrates that citizens are actively protecting their personal identifiers through a simple, mobile‑enabled mechanism.
