Bangalore Leads India's Retail AI Talent Pool, Survey Shows

The latest TeamLeads Digital report reveals that Bangalore accounts for 54 % of India’s retail GCC AI talent pool, housing roughly 4,200 AI and data professionals.

The city’s dominance is contrasted by a thin distribution of senior AI leaders—those with eight or more years of experience—across the country. Nationwide, only 320 senior‑level AI experts exist, and the majority of them (about 63 %) serve as AI Engineering Leads with an average experience of nine years.

Other major hubs such as Delhi‑NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune each have fewer than 20 senior AI leads, reflecting a steep concentration of expertise in Bangalore.

Overall, AI architects and principal scientists make up just 15 % of the senior cohort, translating to around 47 professionals with more than 14 years of experience.
