Axis Bank, India’s fourth‑largest credit‑card issuer, is the first partner for Apple Pay in the country. The bank currently manages around 1.62 crore (16.2 million) active credit cards, contributing to the nation’s total of over 12.2 crore (122 million) cards.
Through the partnership, Axis Bank cardholders can add their Visa or Mastercard to Apple Pay and pay at thousands of offline and online merchants that accept NFC. The collaboration is expected to accelerate card‑based spending while complementing the dominant UPI framework.
