ASSOCHAM Data Reveals Rising Business Trust in India
A wave of renewed corporate trust is sweeping across India, even as international economies grapple with instability. The latest commercial sentiment data underscores a domestic business landscape that is steadily gaining strength.
The ASSOCHAM Business Confidence Index recorded an 8.12 percent climb in October 2026, settling at 128.72 compared to 119.05 in October 2025. This positive shift is attributed to a confluence of favorable demand indicators, robust credit expansion, and a constructive response to structural economic reforms.
Fiscal metrics reflect this optimism vividly. Gross GST collections expanded by 22.9 percent in October 2026, reaching 2.31 lakh crore rupees. This performance highlights vigorous festival-related consumption, accelerated commercial transactions, and enhanced tax discipline. Meanwhile, financial institutions reported a 19.9 percent credit growth rate in September 2026, signaling sustained capital infusion into industrial, retail, and small business segments.
Retail consumption remains resilient, evidenced by steady passenger vehicle purchases. The private sector’s operational pace, captured by a composite PMI reading of 56.7, further confirms continuous industry growth. Together, these figures point to unwavering internal demand and a favorable climate for enterprise expansion.
Market expectations remain upbeat for the coming month. The ABC Index is anticipated to reach 128.4 in November 2026, marking an 8.3 percent increase over the 118.56 figure from November 2025. Introduced on September 30, 2026, the index monitors twenty-two critical economic variables to provide a comprehensive snapshot of national economic health.
Corporate leaders welcome the developing trend. Chairman Nirmal Kumar Mittal highlighted that the rising index values mirror a dynamic business atmosphere and projected sustained GDP acceleration for the ongoing fiscal year. Secretary Sourabh Sanyal emphasized that the upcoming monthly projections indicate durable confidence and a clear path for future economic activities.
Strategic policy adjustments have significantly contributed to this positive shift. Authorities have refined tax compliance mechanisms by slashing standard GST penalties from 25,000 rupees to 10,000 rupees and raising the prosecution threshold from 1 crore rupees to 5 crore rupees. Bureaucratic inspection workflows have also been streamlined to minimize operational disruptions.
Legislative frameworks have been modernized to prioritize ease of doing business. The Jan Vishwas Act eradicates criminal prosecution for trivial offenses, substantially lowering administrative costs. Additionally, the 2026 revision of the MSME Development Act has standardized enterprise classifications, accelerated loan disbursal processes, and enforced stricter payment protocols, ensuring a smoother operational trajectory for Indian enterprises.
