APPU Confirms Singh’s Continuation as Secretary General till 2030

New Delhi, September 6 – The 14th Congress of the Asia‑Pacific Postal Union, convened in Bangkok on September 4, unanimously re‑elected Vinay Prakash Singh for a second term as Secretary General. His tenure, scheduled from January 2027 to December 2030, marks a rare consecutive appointment in the union’s history.

Singh’s re‑selection reflects broad confidence among the 32 member states in his ability to steer the region’s postal agenda. The APPU, the regional arm of the United Nations’ Universal Postal Union, is tasked with fostering cooperation, standardizing services, and promoting innovation across the Asia‑Pacific.

Since taking office in January 2023, Singh has championed initiatives such as interoperable tracking systems, joint training programs, and the rollout of digital mail services. He also played a pivotal role in negotiating bilateral agreements that have reduced delivery times for cross‑border parcels.

The upcoming term is expected to build on these achievements, focusing on enhancing e‑commerce logistics, adopting greener delivery methods, and strengthening regulatory frameworks. Singh’s prior experience – ranging from senior roles in the Indian Postal Service Board to chief postmaster general of the Uttar Pradesh circle – positions him well to navigate complex regional challenges.

Beyond his administrative career, Singh earned a gold medal in modern history from the University of Allahabad and a Ph.D. in management from IIT Delhi, reflecting his commitment to both practical leadership and academic excellence.
