Adani University Convocation: Truth and Trust Key in AI Era
Ahmedabad, October 31: As artificial intelligence reshapes classrooms and laboratories, its spread is prompting difficult questions about what is真 true and how people stay connected. Speaking at Adani University's third convocation on Saturday, IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan called for enthusiasm about AI tempered by careful reflection.
Rangarajan told the gathering, "AI offers immense promise for education and research. It can help solve difficult problems and quicken scientific discovery. At the same time, we should be mindful of its implications."
He pointed to a growing challenge: "When images, videos and information can be produced so believably, how will we know what is real? As technology draws us closer in digital terms, are we moving farther away from each other? We should adopt the capabilities of AI, but also think carefully about what we may give up."
The ceremony saw 374 degrees awarded to the 2026 batch. Ten students received academic excellence medals, which included five gold, three silver and two bronze.
Adani University Chairperson Dr. Priti Adani led the proceedings and welcomed the chief guest. She remarked, "We are fortunate to have Prof. Rangarajan with us. His distinguished contributions to mathematics, research and academic leadership are a strong motivation for our graduating students and for all of us. Our focus is on making Adani University a research-led university of the future."
Addressing collaboration between industry and academia, she stated, "Industry is not meant to dictate the curriculum. Real-world challenges, however, can bring up questions that neither sector could tackle independently."
Rangarajan stressed that India has already built infrastructure on an impressive scale and said the next step is large-scale innovation. He asked students to pursue inventions that can benefit the most underprivileged communities.
Provost Prof. (Dr.) Dhaval Pujara delivered the annual report, acknowledging contributions from faculty, staff, students and industry partners. He highlighted initiatives to strengthen academics, build a research climate and engage more closely with industry and society.
Set up in 2022, Adani University emphasises industry-aligned education, hands-on training and research. Its long-term objective is to become a multidisciplinary institution that supports India's development and nation-building.
