Adani Power Q2 Net Profit Nearly Triples Year-on-Year

Adani Power, India's largest private sector thermal power generator, has recorded impressive financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2026-27. Consolidated net profit after tax climbed 141.5% to ₹7,019.32 crore, up from ₹2,906.46 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The company also reported robust growth in overall income. Total revenue rose 39.4% to ₹19,950.60 crore, compared with ₹14,307.79 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. EBITDA climbed 45.7% to ₹8,743.22 crore.

Operational revenue increased 29.8% to ₹17,014.06 crore, while EBITDA from continuing operations rose 18.5% to ₹6,320.97 crore.

The first half of the year was even more impressive. Net profit for April to September nearly doubled to ₹11,885.92 crore, and total revenue grew 36% to ₹39,272.90 crore.

Chief Executive Officer Sher Singh B. Khyalia said the company continues to set new benchmarks in profitability and project execution. He emphasised that coal-based domestic power is gaining greater significance in meeting India's long-term electricity needs.

The company noted that electricity demand in India increased 11.5% to 502 billion units in the second quarter, with coal and lignite making up 66% of total supply. Peak demand surged 18% to 270 gigawatts during the same period.

Adani Power's electricity sales rose to 26.4 billion units from 23.7 billion units a year ago. Plant load factor improved to 70.1% from 62.8%, and total operational capacity stood at 18,150 megawatts.

Sales under long-term power purchase agreements grew 29.7% to 23.4 billion units, while tariff realisation rose 12.7% to ₹6.4 per unit. Short-term and merchant market realisation increased 33.1% to ₹7.2 per unit, even though volumes in this segment dropped 43% as surplus capacity was moved to medium-term contracts.

The company believes that continued growth in power demand, strong industrial momentum, and increasing urbanisation could sustain favourable trends in the power sector in the coming quarters, providing further impetus to Adani Power's expansion.
