In a boost to India’s child welfare ecosystem, Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi revealed that more than 14 lakh Anganwadi centers are serving 8.9 crore individuals. These frontline workers are extending vital support to expectant mothers, breastfeeding women, teens, and kids, forming the backbone of the nation’s nutrition strategy.

Poshan Maas and Poshan Pakhwada have ignited a nationwide revolution, with crores of events mobilizing communities for better health outcomes. The minister lauded the unwavering commitment of Anganwadi didis, sahayikas, and ASHA workers in realizing PM’s goals at the grassroots level.

‘The ministry is committed to touching every doorstep,’ Devi affirmed, positioning children as the cornerstone of Viksit Bharat. Ensuring their nutritional needs through a people’s movement is paramount, she added, urging states to share successes, customize best practices, and prioritize aspirational districts.

Devi called nutrition a continuous journey, essential for fostering complete child development, backed by community engagement and prolonged care. The launch of the 8th Poshan Pakhwada from April 9-23 signals renewed vigor in this national crusade.

Minister Savitri Thakur pointed to the Modi government’s track record: eight Nutrition Months and seven Fortnights since 2018. Emphasizing early childhood, she noted brain growth peaks in the first six years—85% complete—with the initial 1,000 days irreplaceable for cognitive foundations.

True progress lies in holistic nurturing, blending nutrition with sensitive care and foundational learning, Thakur asserted. This multi-pronged strategy is set to empower millions, steering India towards a nutritionally secure tomorrow.
