74th EPFO Foundation Day: Key Launches and Awards Announced

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation will observe its 74th Foundation Day on Sunday, with Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya set to lead several important launches and presentations.

The highlights include automatic settlement of eligible dormant PF accounts holding a balance up to Rs 1,000. The EPFO will also begin providing its services through WhatsApp, a step designed to bring its facilities closer to members.

An official statement said the minister will visit the exhibition stalls set up for the occasion. He will also release a set of publications that showcase the organisation's commitment to knowledge creation, institutional learning, legal awareness and sensitive governance.

The programme will see the presentation of the Bhavishya Nidhi Puraskar 2026, recognising the contributions of regional offices, zonal offices, individual officers and employees.

The statement emphasised that the 74th Foundation Day is a chance to reiterate a continuing commitment to ensuring that the labour of an employee benefits the employee and their family through security, dignity and peace of mind.

Senior ministry officials, Central Board of Trustees members, EPFO officials and staff, employers, workers and other stakeholders will be present at the ceremony.

Expanding Social Security Net

In recent years, India has considerably broadened the scope of social security. Coverage grew from 19 per cent in 2015 to 68.4 per cent in 2026, and over one billion people have now come under the social security framework.

The EPFO has also seen a sharp rise in contributing members. In financial year 2014-15, the number stood at 3.49 crore. By September 16, 2026, it had reached about 7.98 crore, meaning roughly 4.49 crore contributing members were added over this period.

As of September 2026, 7.68 lakh establishments were contributing to the EPFO, building a comprehensive institutional base for delivering social security benefits to eligible employees.
