In a major boost to eco-friendly logistics, Maruti Suzuki India announced on Monday that it shipped over 585,000 vehicles through Indian Railways in 2025, up 18% from 2024. The automaker celebrated this as a pivotal step toward greener supply chains.
Railway usage for vehicle transport has skyrocketed from 5.1% in 2016 to 26% this year, yielding tangible benefits: lower carbon output, reduced fuel imports, and less road congestion. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, called it the peak rail dispatch in company history.
Key highlights include inaugurating the nation’s biggest in-plant rail siding at Manesar and achieving a first-of-its-kind delivery to Kashmir over the Chenab Bridge, the world’s tallest rail arch. These feats bolster Maruti’s green logistics push.
The company eyes 35% rail share by 2030-31, supporting national sustainability targets. Over the past decade from FY 2014-15, 28 lakh+ units reached 600+ cities via 22 hubs using the efficient hub-and-spoke system.
With 45+ flexi-deck rakes in operation—each hauling ~260 cars per run—53% of 2025 volumes originated from Gujarat and Manesar. Maruti’s ‘Circular Mobility’ initiative tackles emissions holistically, from production to scrappage.
‘We’re relentlessly cutting our carbon footprint throughout the vehicle lifecycle,’ Takeuchi affirmed, solidifying Maruti’s leadership in sustainable auto logistics.
