Kupwara’s young women got a taste of adventure and empowerment thanks to the Indian Army. On February 17, the Vajra Division’s Kupwara Territors launched a special trip from Pathri Garrison, ferrying girls from the Folk Centre and Barkat Bistro straight to Gulmarg’s snowy paradise.

Far from their everyday lives in isolated Kupwara villages, these girls discovered the magic of new places. The Army’s vision? To ignite confidence and shape strong personalities through immersive experiences like this.

High above the ground in the Gulmarg Gondola, they gazed at glittering ice peaks and verdant valleys—sights they’d only dreamed of. Ecstatic and empowered, the girls shared their thrill, while grateful parents praised the Army’s thoughtful gesture.

In North Kashmir, the Indian Army is on a mission: bridge gaps for women, spark inspiration, impart skills, and build strength. It’s about more than jobs—it’s nurturing growth that lets these girls shine on bigger stages, honoring their roots.

The outing doubled as a leadership workshop, with group activities honing collaboration and decision-making. Such programs, say Army leaders, forge independent, bold women ready for any challenge.

Looking ahead, officials promise continued events to uplift Kupwara and North Kashmir’s daughters socially and academically. This isn’t just goodwill; it’s the Army proving its mettle in security and societal progress alike.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai officially inaugurated the National Supercross Bike Racing Championship at Raipur’s Budhapara Stadium. Demonstrating his commitment to the sport and safety, the Chief Minister took a ceremonial ride on a motorcycle, helmet in place, to kick off the prestigious event. This championship, a key part of Chhattisgarh’s Silver Jubilee Year celebrations, is designed to foster a strong sense of discipline, responsibility, and road safety among the state’s youth.

CM Sai shared a video of his ride, emphasizing the critical importance of safety gear and adherence to traffic laws for all two-wheeler riders. He addressed the gathered youth, stating, “It is our responsibility to guide the enthusiasm and speed of the youth in the right direction and provide them with an appropriate platform. Your life is precious, therefore always wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler and follow traffic rules. Do not race on the road at all.” His message resonated with the large crowd, particularly the young attendees, highlighting the event’s dual focus on thrilling competition and responsible riding. The championship aims to channel the energy of young riders into a structured and safe environment, contributing to the nation’s strength through balanced velocity. The event is set to continue on November 8th and 9th.

Indian football is entering a new era under the guidance of head coach Khalid Jamil. Jamil has revealed the 23-member squad set to compete in the upcoming CAFA Nations Cup,…

Indian football is entering a new era under the guidance of head coach Khalid Jamil. Jamil has revealed the 23-member squad set to compete in the upcoming CAFA Nations Cup, commencing August 29 in Tajikistan. A significant talking point surrounds Jamil’s initial selection: the absence of the iconic striker Sunil Chhetri has caused considerable surprise among fans.

Jamil, who formally assumed the role of head coach earlier this month, has made a bold move by opting to proceed without India’s most celebrated footballer. Chhetri, renowned for his attacking prowess and leadership, has been a cornerstone of Indian football for over a decade. Jamil’s decision to exclude him from the preparatory camp signals a shift towards a squad with a younger profile.

The training camp began on August 1 with 29 potential players, ultimately reduced to 23 due to Mohun Bagan’s refusal to release seven key players. Despite this setback, Jamil expressed confidence in the final squad. The team features a blend of experienced players such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Sandesh Jhingan, alongside emerging talents including Irfan Yadwad and Vikram Partap Singh.

While there has been no official explanation regarding Chhetri’s exclusion, several factors may have influenced the decision. Considerations might include a focus on long-term planning, with Jamil potentially aiming to build a squad for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and beyond. The management may also have chosen to rest the veteran striker following a demanding ISL season. Furthermore, Jamil’s tactical approach, known for its high-intensity style, may favor younger forwards who can execute aggressive pressing.

India’s group stage fixtures in the CAFA Nations Cup pit them against hosts Tajikistan (August 29), defending champions Iran (September 1), and Afghanistan (September 4). The top two teams will advance to the play-offs, with the final scheduled for September 8 in Tashkent.

The CAFA Nations Cup would have offered Indian football enthusiasts another opportunity to witness Chhetri’s leadership, possibly in one of his final international tournaments. His absence marks not only a tactical adjustment but also underscores the inevitable transition into a post-Chhetri era for the Blue Tigers.

As Jamil commences his first campaign, attention will be on how well the squad can perform against formidable opponents without their iconic leader. While the door may not be entirely closed for Chhetri, this decision indicates that Indian football is looking toward the future, where established legends will make way for the next generation.

A true sportsperson, regardless of the arena, demonstrates resilience and dedication. Esports has emerged as a significant global phenomenon, captivating millions of young viewers and players, evolving into a multi-million dollar industry. This competitive gaming landscape, filled with virtual arenas, is transforming into a cultural movement.

Esports offers a wide range of matches, encouraging strategic planning, cooperation, teamwork, and rapid decision-making. Many young players hone skills such as hand-eye coordination through practice and competition. Some even find career opportunities in game development, marketing, broadcasting, and advertising.

Sohail Khan, a silver medalist at the Senior Kudo World Cup, expressed his views on esports’ impact. He emphasizes that the real danger lies in how people use it, particularly the risk of addiction. He believes that offline sports provide a comprehensive package of discipline, confidence-building, stress relief, social interaction, and physical and mental well-being. While esports can be enjoyed in moderation, Khan argues that true growth and strength come from participation in real-life sports.

Excessive screen time and game addiction can lead to significant health issues. Mental health professionals have raised concerns about the psychological impact, as the pressure to perform well can cause stress and anxiety. Parents who once discouraged video games are now potentially encouraging their children to excel in them.

The challenge lies in promoting the benefits of esports while mitigating the risks, ensuring this virtual revolution positively impacts young minds.

In a move to promote the training and development of budding cricketers in the state, a significant decision has been made. The Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh will be allocated 7.96 acres of land in Sector-3, Gram-Parsada, Nava Raipur Atal Nagar for the establishment of a cricket academy. This decision came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

While direct land allocation to non-profit organizations is not typically permitted under government regulations, the state government has relaxed these rules in this specific case to facilitate the establishment of the cricket academy for the benefit of the players.

Chhattisgarh holds immense potential in the field of cricket, with several players already showcasing their talent at the national level. The presence of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Nava Raipur highlights the need for an academy to provide international-standard facilities and training. This decision will provide talented youths with excellent opportunities to excel in cricket and bring national and international recognition to the state. This step by the Chhattisgarh government will not only open new doors for young cricketers in the state but also help establish Chhattisgarh’s strong identity in the field of sports.
