  • Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath likely to find a place on BJP Parliamentary Board soon

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: The day-long visit of UP CM Yogi Adityanath along with the two Deputy CMs to Delhi on Monday led political circles in Lucknow go abuzz with speculation of his possible induction into the BJP Parliamentary Board, the apex decision making body, soon.

The resounding win for a second consecutive term in the country’s politically most crucial state is being seen as the first step towards elevation of Yogi Adityanath’s political stature in the party by way of his likely ascension to the parliamentary board, where the only Chief Minister who is a member is Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The BJP’s highest decision-making body is its 11-member parliamentary board which takes important decisions about the party’s policy in Parliament and state legislatures.

Currently, the elite Board has four vacancies which have resulted due to the demise of senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, elevation of Venkaiah Naidu to the post of country’s Vice President and retirement of Thaawarchand Gehlot as leader of the Rajya Sabha.

The seven remaining members include PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national chief JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and party general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh.

Meanwhile, according to highly-placed sources in Delhi, the existing four vacancies on the board are likely to be filled shortly to expedite the party’s policy-making process ahead of the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. During the pandemic, the formal physical meetings of Parliamentary Board have been rare. As per the sources, it has been an exchange of ideas only among the big three, Modi, Shah and Nadda, and the decisions are communicated to other members. Nevertheless, for BJP leaders, sharing a post on the board is deemed to be an honour. “The victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections in the state has given a push to CM Yogi not only as UP CM but also as a senior leader who will also have a say in crucial decisions,” said a senior BJP leader.

Moreover, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also been throwing its weight behind Yogi. In the UP Assembly election also, the RSS was pulling out all stops to ensure a second term for Yogi.

“Besides Yogi, other names doing the rounds for induction into the coveted panel include Bhupendra Yadav, Piyush Goyal and one from SC,” sources said.

Meanwhile, on Monday, after reaching Delhi along with his two deputies — Keshav Maurya and Brajesh Pathak — Yogi Adityanath met President Ramnath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national chief JP Nadda. “Monday’s visit of UP CM Yogi Adityanath to Delhi to call on the PM and other senior BJP leaders might include discussions over his induction in the panel,” a senior leader at the party central office said.

As per highly placed sources, the UP CM along with both the Deputy CMs, was expected to sit with the BJP top brass to discuss issues related to the state especially in the wake of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

  • Bareilly man thrashed for calling Modi ‘Ram’, Yogi ‘Krishna’

    By PTI

BAREILLY: A 45-year-old man was thrashed here allegedly for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reincarnations of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, police said on Thursday.

The man was admitted to the district hospital in a serious condition and a case has been registered in this connection, they said.

Kamran Haseeb, the victim, said some people were holding grudges against him since the elections.

He said that same people beat him up on Wednesday when he hailed the two politicians as reincarnations of Ram and Krishna, and praised their schemes.

Haseeb, who lives in Jaffar Khan locality here, said he tried to convince them that the government should be praised for providing free food grains, salt, refined oil, but this instead infuriated them.

The accused him with lathis, said Haseeb, according to police.

Haseeb also alleged that the accused tried to kill him with a country-made weapon but he managed to save himself, police said.

SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said investigations are on in the case and action will be taken after enquiry.

  • UP govt to form panel to probe why NCR builders are going bankrupt, leaving buyers in the lurch

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW: Noticing the repeated claims of insolvency and bankruptcy by private builders, the UP government will be setting up a high-level committee soon to find out the reasons for it. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered the Industrial Development Department to set up the committee with the mandate to look into the conditions which are compelling private builders to file for bankruptcy leaving thousands of flat buyers in the lurch.

In fact, since the Yogi cabinet 2.0 assumed charge, two prominent builders —  Supertech Limited and Logix City — have filed for bankruptcy voluntarily before NCLT. Prior to them, Wave real estate group had filed for bankruptcy voluntarily in March 2021.

Prior to this, several big names of the real estate industry such as Amrapali, Jaypee Group, Three C Homes, Unitech and Sahara have faced insolvency proceedings in the past.

Significantly, a number of well-known firms have declared themselves bankrupt urging the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to liquidate their assets so that they could arrange funds and deliver the incomplete projects. Buyers have been a harried lot due to non-deliverance of their units despite having paid the money. The sources claimed that NCLT has issued orders to declare at least a dozen small and big real estate firm owners bankrupt.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), especially Noida and Greater Noida, scores of homebuyers have no clarity as to when will they get possession of their flats booked under various projects of these builders even after making the payments to the developers. “Things are not streamlined. Uncertainty looms large even after the establishment of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Why the developers are declaring themselves bankrupt needs to be probed,” said an officer. RERA came into force from May 1, 2017.

In Noida and Greater Noida, the status of the majority of projects, which were launched between 2009-2014, is incomplete. The system under RERA became effective three years after that. According to official sources, after extracting money forthe promised units from the buyers and banks, developers have made hay.

“It is convenient to exit from the project instead of fulfilling the obligations. Insolvency proceedings and liquidation is a complex process and takes a lot of time. Before taking any adverse action against the developers, the authorities need to ensure protection of the buyers’ interest,” said a senior official.

  • Uttar Pradesh government has been successful in ‘eradicating’ encephalitis: CM Yogi Adityanath

    By PTI

SIDDHARTHNAGAR: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said his government has been successful in “eradicating” encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh and alleged that previous dispensations in the state did not do anything for the prevention of the disease.

Speaking at the launch of a campaign aimed at controlling communicable diseases here, Adityanath said encephalitis used to be a “curse” for eastern Uttar Pradesh.

“Due to this, a number of people died every year from 1977 to 2017. In eastern UP, 2,000-3,000 deaths used to take place every year because of this disease. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government took on encephalitis, and through the Swachh Bharat Mission and other campaigns, we started working with the World Health Organisation,” he said.

“Those who had only given assurances for 40 years, could not do anything,” he said referring to previous state governments, and added, “We have been successful in eradicating it (encephalitis) completely. Our forefathers used to say that prevention is more important than cure.”

Encephalitis is a serious neurological illness that causes inflammation of the brain.

Its symptoms may include headache, fever, confusion, stiff neck and vomiting.

The disease most commonly affects children and young adults and can lead to mortality.

According to the National Health Portal, viruses are the main causative agents in encephalitis cases, although other sources such as bacteria, fungus, parasites, chemicals, toxins and non-infectious agents have also been blamed.

The chief minister further said, “This is an awareness programme, and if you associate yourself with this programme, then I am of the view that encephalitis, dengue, chikungunya and kala azar will be eradicated. We have also taken a pledge to eradicate filaria and tuberculosis, and we will not allow such diseases to last in Uttar Pradesh.”

Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh holds the “record” for setting up the maximum number of medical colleges in the last five years.

“We have established a medical college in Siddharthnagar and students have enroled for the first session. In the coming year, we will set up 17-18 medical colleges in the state so that people can avail services of health experts,” he said.

  • Rename Farrukhabad district as Panchal Nagar, BJP MP urges Adityanath

    By PTI

FARRUKHABAD: BJP MP Mukesh Rajput on Friday wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding that Farrukhabad district be renamed as Panchal Nagar or Aparkashi.

Elaborating on the history of the district, the MP said in the times of the Mahabharata, the area was called Panchala, the kindom ruled by Pandava queen Draupadi’s father Drupad.

“The capital of King Drupad was Kampil, which is located in the district and where Draupadi’s ‘swayamvar’ had taken place,” he wrote.

Located close to the Ganga and Ramganga and Kali river, the history of Farrukhabad is very rich since the age of Puranas, he said.

“The Army of King Drupad used to reside in the Cantonment area. Today, there are two regimental centres–Rajput Regiment and Sikh LI,” he said.

He added that Kampil is of religious importance to both Hindus and Jains.

“The first Jain Teerthankar Rishabhadeva had delivered a sermon here. Sankissa is a world famous pilgrim place for the Buddhists. Countries like Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma (Myanmar) and Japan have built big Baudh Viharas here,” he said.

“Like Kashi, ‘Shivalayas’ (temples of Lord Shiva) exist in every bylane, hence, this city (Farrukhabad) is also called ‘Aparkashi’,” the BJP MP added.

“However in 1714, Mughal ruler Farrukhsiyar changed the name of the city to Farrukhabad. Hence, you are requested that to revive the Indian culture, the name of Farrukhabad district should be changed to Panchal Nagar or Aparkashi,” he wrote.

He further said the Nibkarori railway station is also located in the district, he said.

Neeb Karori Baba was a Hindu guru and a devotee of Lord Hanuman, and was known outside India for being a spiritual master of a number of Americans who travelled to India in the 1960s and 70s, he said.

In December 2021, the Uttar Pradesh government renamed the Jhansi railway station as Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station after Rani Laxmibai.

Earlier, the Mughalsarai railway station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction and the Faizabad Railway station as Ayodhya Cantt.

Since coming to power, the Adityanath government has changed names of several establishments, including those of Faizabad and Allahabad districts, which were renamed as Ayodhya and Prayagraj, respectively.

  • Yogi government 2.0 cracks whip against ‘slack’, ‘corrupt’ officers

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW: After assuming office, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has got into action mode against corrupt officers which resulted in suspension of not only IPS Pawan Kumar, SSP Ghaziabad, but also an IAS officer TK Shibu, the district magistrate of Sonbhadra, on Thursday.

In case of Ghaziabad SSP, the incident of loot of Rs 25 lakh from a petrol pump three days ago in the district proved costly to the police chief and he was suspended for alleged dereliction of duty by the UP government on Thursday evening.

The axe fell on Senior Superintendent of Police of Pawan Kumar for his “failure” to control the crime in Ghaziabad, the district bordering the national capital.

Three days ago, three bike-borne robbers had looted Rs 25 lakh from the staffers of a petrol pump located in B Block of Govindpuram Colony under the Masuri police station area in the NCR district while they were going to a bank to deposit the money.

A video of the incident had also gone viral on social media in which the miscreants were seen opening fire on the petrol pump employees.

In a statement issued here, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said: “The SSP, Ghaziabad, has been suspended for dereliction of duty and the failure to control crime.” An IPS officer of the 2009 batch, Pawan Kumar was posted in Ghaziabad in August last year.

As per the highly placed sources, there were reports of lackadaisical approach of the IPS officer towards the public issues.

After the initial probe, prime facie the SSP’s laxity was allegedly established as a result of which he got the suspension. Before Ghaziabad, Pawan Kumar was helming Moradabad as SSP.

However, his first posting was as SP City Agra followed by Shamli in western UP, Chitrakoot in Bundelkhand, Jaunpur in eastern UP, Unnao, Sitapur and Sultanpur in central UP.

As per the local sources, after the incident of loot, there has been an atmosphere of fear and panic among the traders of the city.

On the other, earlier in the day, Sonbhadra DM TK Shibu was also served the suspension order as there were complaints of corruption against him as well.

The official sources said that Shibu had been on the state government’s radar even before the assembly polls following complaints in connection with illegal mining and other related issues.

In the suspension order, ACS Devesh Chatruvedi said: “Against Sonbhadra DM, issues of corruption in mining, district mineral trust committee and public works had come to light. Moreover, during the recently concluded Assembly polls, Shibu was accused of laxity in performance of his duties as District Election Officer. These charges were got probed by the divisional commissioner of Mirzapur Division and prima facie Sonbhara DM was found to be guilty of the wrongdoings. So his is being suspended with immediate effect.”

The order also mentioned that during the suspension, Shibu will reamin attached to Revenue Board in state capital and he would have to seek prior permission for leaving the headquarter.

  • Tongues wag as sulking Shivpal meets CM Yogi

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW:  Shivpal Singh Yadav, the sulking younger brother of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Wednesday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, triggering speculation of realignment of political forces.

The development comes amid widening rift between Shivpal, who won the recent Assembly election from Jaswantnagar in Etawah on SP symbol, and his nephew and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. After Shivpal took his oath office as an MLA of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, he proceeded to Yogi’s official residence and the two leaders were closeted for about 20 minutes.

When reporters asked Shivpal whether he intends to join the BJP, he did not refute it, merely saying that he had already taken the oath of the House and did not want to say more than that for now. For the record, Shivpal’s Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia termed it a “courtesy call” to greet Yogi on his victory and return to power in Uttar Pradesh.
