  • Mayawati’s Masterstroke: BSP To Contest 2024 Lok Sabha Polls Alone |

NEW DELHI: In a strategic move that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, Mayawati, the influential Dalit leader and national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), made a big announcement on her birthday. Amidst the celebratory greetings, she declared that the BSP would go solo in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking a departure from previous political alliances.

“I want to make it clear that Bahujan Samaj Party will fight Lok Sabha elections alone, won’t get into alliance with any party, ” she said.

Alone But Unyielding: BSP’s Lone Battle in 2024

Mayawati, known for her astute political maneuvers, chose the occasion of her birthday to unveil the party’s independent stance for the crucial parliamentary elections. The decision to contest the polls without forming alliances reflects a bold and independent approach, setting the stage for a distinctive electoral strategy.

    A Calculated Political Shift

This move comes in the wake of speculation regarding Mayawati’s potential collaboration with the I.N.D.I.A opposition alliance. However, with this announcement, she has strategically positioned the BSP as a formidable standalone force in the electoral battleground. The decision is likely to reshape political dynamics in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

    Mayawati’s Vision for the Future

Mayawati’s decision carries implications not only for the BSP but also for the broader political scenario. As she charts a course for her party, it remains to be seen how this shift will influence alliances, voter dynamics, and the overall political narrative in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.

    The Unfolding Political Drama

With Mayawati’s bold declaration, the political stage is set for a gripping narrative. The decision to go solo brings with it a sense of anticipation, leaving political pundits and citizens alike speculating about the potential impact on alliances, strategies, and the final outcome of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. As the BSP embarks on this solitary journey, the coming months promise an unfolding drama that could redefine the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended birthday wishes to Mayawati, the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The greetings were conveyed through social media, accompanied by a phone call expressing good health and longevity for the former Chief Minister.

The significance of CM Yogi’s call amplifies as it coincides with Mayawati’s anticipated decision regarding joining the I.N.D.I.A opposition alliance led by the Congress. Speculations are rife about the call influencing the political landscape just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the volatile realm of politics, alliances are said to be ephemeral, and a phone call can redefine relationships.

  • Opposition’s stand on new Parliament irresponsible, will weaken democracy: UP CM Yogi

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW: Lashing out at the opposition for boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said it was “extremely sad and irresponsible.”

Launching a broadside on the opposition on Thursday, CM Yogi said that May 28 would go into the annals of history as one of the most glorious moments of independent India and the people will never accept the Opposition’s stand of boycotting it. “Under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, the new Parliament, the highest institution of democracy, will be dedicated to the country. It will be a proud moment for the entire country,” he said while interacting with media persons. He said that instead of becoming a witness to this historic occasion, the statements being made by opposition parties would weaken democracy.

The CM said the opposition’s stand seemed to be an attempt to denigrate the democratic values of India. “The whole country is watching this mala fide attempt of the opposition to belittle democracy,” he said.

Speaking on the new Parliament building, CM Yogi said, “It is built with a 100-year vision and has a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. It ensures adequate space for each parliamentarian and access to all amenities. This Parliament will serve as a significant forum for raising the voice of the common man. However, the opposition rhetoric is extremely upsetting and unfortunate.”

Reacting to the Opposition’s objection to the inauguration by the PM instead of the President, the UP CM said it was not new in the democratic history of India. “The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had inaugurated the Parliament Annexe and former PM Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation of the Parliament Library,” he claimed.

“Apart from this, there are many other examples. The country and its citizens will never accept the opposition’s attempts to degrade the historical significance of witnessing this momentous event. We would appeal to people to witness and participate in this glorious moment with a call to strengthen India’s democracy,” added CM Yogi.

  • Atiq Ahmad murder: Owaisi demands resignation of UP CM, SC-monitored probe

    By PTI

HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday attacked the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh over the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the incident and urged for a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the matter.

Alleging that the BJP was running the government in Uttar Pradesh by “rule by gun” and not rule of law, Owaisi said this had been continuing ever since the BJP government was formed in 2017.

A day after Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Uttar Pradesh, the Hyderabad MP termed the killings cold-blooded murder.

“You see the way the weapons were fired. It is cold-blooded murder and they (those involved in the killings) are professionals. How much is the role of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh government and who are these people who in the presence of police and media resorted to cold-blooded murder? Who told them? What is their background and why didn’t the police stop them? And for this it is needed that Supreme-Court-monitored investigation should be done into this incident,” Owaisi told reporters here.

Condemning the incident, the AIMIM chief said it is not only Indian Muslims, but all those citizens of the country who believe in rule of law and the Constitution, “all of them feel weak today”.

He charged that there was radicalisation in the majority community.

“Who are these people? Those who were involved in yesterday’s killings if they are not related to the Uttar Pradesh government. I am raising a question. I don’t know if they are related or not. And how did they got radicalised? How come they got these weapons?” Owaisi asked.

“These are highly radicalised elements. Who are these people, after firing (they) raise religious slogans What will you call them if not terrorists? Will you call them ‘Desh Bhakts’? Will you garland them?” he asked and slammed those who were celebrating the incident.

Owaisi said the entire responsibility lay on the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

  • UP CM Yogi Adityanath hails SC nod to conduct civic polls with OBC reservation

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of India giving its nod, on Monday, to conduct urban civic polls in Uttar Pradesh with OBC reservation. The Supreme Court also ordered the State Election Commission to issue election notification within two days.

Significantly, the Supreme Court passed the order while perusing the report of the Backward Commission submitted by Yogi government on March 15. The court while hearing the UP government’s plea accepted the commission’s report and asked the state government to go ahead with the civic polls.

The state government had constituted the five-member commission in compliance of apex court order to recommend the quota provisions for OBCs in UP Urban Civic Polls. The Backward Commission visited 75 districts to conduct the survey to ascertain the status of various OBC in urban civic areas. It submitted the report to the UP government on March 9.

Reacting to the SC order, CM Yogi said that the government was committed to OBC reservation and took all measures towards making provisions for OBC quota in Urbana civic bodies within the time frame given by the Supreme Court.  He said that following the rules of reservation in a lawful manner, the Uttar Pradesh government was committed to conduct urban body elections in a time-bound manner.

It may be recalled that a petition was filed in Allahabad High Court challenging the provision of OBC reservation made by the state government ahead of the urban civic bodies elections. While hearing the matter, the High Court had directed the state government to hold the Urban civic body elections immediately without OBC reservation as it was not in accordance to the ‘triple test’ norm of OBCreservation in civic bodies set by the apex court.

Consequently, the UP government challenged the High Court order in SC while claiming that it would not conduct the polls without reservation to OBCs.  Meanwhile, the state government constituted the five member OBC commission headed by a retired judge.

On the other, the apex court, while hearing the UP government’s plea on March 27, directed the commission constituted to file its report by March 31, staying the High Court order to hold immediate elections without quota.
