    By PTI

Ghaziabad (UP) The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday issued a notice to Yati Narsinghanand, the priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna Devi temple, instructing him not to organise a “dharma sansad” and a preparatory meeting for which permission has not been obtained from the district administration, a senior officer said.

Narsinghanand, who often triggers controversy with his provocative remarks, has called the three-day “dharma sansad” beginning December 17, the birth anniversary of former BJP MP Baikunth Lal Sharma.

A preparatory meeting has been called on December 6 to chalk out plans for the three-day event.

Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (Rural) Iraj Raja said, “Without permission, the police will not permit the three-day-long ‘dharma sansad’ which hundreds of seers are expected to attend. Also, providing security to them would be a tough task.”

Furthermore, prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 have been enforced in the district in view of civic body elections, the police officer said.

The police served notice on Narsinghanand on Thursday instructing him not to organise the “dharma sansad” and the preparatory meeting.

In a press statement, the priest said, “Dharma Sansad will be held in the temple premises that is why no permission is required for it. And, it is not being held for the first time. We will organise it at any cost. If police and administration create hindrance, seers will lodge their protest.”

  • Congress raises instances of hate speech against minorities in Rajya Sabha

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The opposition Congress on Wednesday raised in the Rajya Sabha increased instances of hate speeches against minorities in the country, including controversial priest Yati Narsinghanand’s call to Hindus to take up arms.

Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu did not allow the issue to be raised under rule 267 and even ordered expunging from records the references to the alleged call by the priest for the killing of a particular minority community.

“This shall not go on record. No community name will go on record,” Naidu ruled on Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge seeking to raise the issue through a notice under rule 267 which calls for suspension of the business of the day to take up the issue being raised.

Kharge said he has given notice under rule 267 about instances of hate speech against minorities in the country and alleged harassment of journalists of certain online media outlets.

Swamijis are giving instigating speeches from Haridwar to Delhi, he said in an oblique reference to Narsinghanand’s speeches.

“On Sunday, one Swami said that all… (community name expunged on Naidu’s order) should be butchered.”

Naidu said, “We should not quote his words if he has uttered a meaningless word. Again raising in the House and then having a discussion on who spoke what. That is not going to solve the problem. I have not allowed it.”

“Nobody should indulge in hate speech against any community, minority, or majority. Communities should not be taken nobody should make any speech against anybody.”

Yati Narsinghanand, the controversial head priest of the Dasna Devi temple, sparked yet another row on Sunday with his comment exhorting Hindus to take up arms to “fight for their existence”.

Earlier, Naidu said he has not allowed notices by Kharge and Sushmita Dev, both of the Congress and Luizinho Joaquim Faleiro and Mohd.

Nadimul Haque, both of TMC, under rule 267 on issues of rising prices and instances of hate speeches.

“They do not come under the purview of 267,” he said, adding, “Even if you give notices every day, if it is not worth to be taken up under that rule, I will not do it.”

  • Attorney General KK Venugopal’s nod against hate speech accused

    By Express News Service

NEW DELHI: Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal on Friday granted consent to activist Shachi Nelli for initiation of criminal contempt of court proceedings against Yati Narsinghanand over his derogatory remarks against the Supreme Court.

The top law officer of the country found that Narsinghanand’s statement “those who believe in this system, these politicians, in the Supreme Court, and in the Army will all die the death of a dog”, was a direct attempt to lower the authority of the Supreme Court in the minds of the public.

As per Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, the consent of Attorney General is required before the Supreme Court can hear a criminal contempt of court petition filed by a private individual. Nelli had, therefore, written to the AG seeking his consent.

Narsinghanand’s statements were made in response to questions posed about the court proceedings in the Haridwar hate speech case.

The letter moved before the AG provided the entire statement made by Narsinghanand and also provided details of where the clip can be found.

As per the plea, Narsinghanand’s statements undermined the majesty of the institution and authority vested in the Supreme Court and was an attempt at interfering in the course of justice.

  • ‘Dharam Sansad’ row: SC issues notice to Centre on plea on alleged hate speeches

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought responses from the Centre and others on a petition seeking a direction to ensure investigation and action against those who allegedly made hate speeches during two events held recently in Haridwar and the national capital.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana issued notice on the plea filed by journalist Qurban Ali and former Patna High Court judge and senior advocate Anjana Prakash, who have sought a direction for an “independent, credible and impartial investigation” by an SIT into the incidents of alleged hate speeches.

The bench also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli permitted the petitioners to give representation to the local authority against holding of future ‘Dharam Sansad’.

It posted the matter for hearing after 10 days.

The plea, which specifically referred to the alleged hate speeches delivered between the “17th and 19th of December 2021 at Haridwar and Delhi”, has also sought compliance of apex court’s guidelines to deal with such speeches.

One event was organised in Haridwar by Yati Narsinghanand and the other in Delhi by ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’ allegedly “calling for genocide of members” of a community, it said.
