    NEW DELHI: On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the role of women in India’s progress and said his government will keep working to further women’s empowerment.

    “On International Women’s Day, a tribute to the achievements of our Nari Shakti. We greatly cherish the role of women in India’s progress,” Modi said in a tweet.

    “Our government will keep working to further women empowerment,” he said using the hashtag ‘Nari Shakti for New India’.

    The prime minister also shared on Twitter a compilation of women achievers whose life journeys were chronicled in ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

    Sharing President Droupadi Murmu’s article on the indomitable spirit of Indian women on International Women’s Day, Modi tweeted, “On the way back from Tripura I read this article and found it very motivating. I would urge others to read it as well.”

    “On Women’s Day, it chronicles the life journey of a very inspiring person who devoted her life to service and rose to become India’s President,” he said about the president’s article ‘Her Story, My Story: Why I am hopeful about gender justice’.

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recalled the glorious contributions of ‘Nari Shakti’ in all walks of life.

    “The government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi is relentlessly working towards women empowerment through its various effective schemes and programmes,” he said.

    “From being operationally deployed in Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world, to being posted on warships, Indian women are breaking barriers in almost every field in the Armed Forces,” Singh tweeted.

    External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, “On International Women’s Day, applaud the efforts and the accomplishments of our Nari Shakti.”

    “Their contributions are indispensable to Atmanirbhar Bharat’s growth story,” he said.

  • Counselling cell at Bihar police HQ for survivors of gender-based violence

    PATNA: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Wesker Section of Bihar police inaugurated a counselling cell at the headquarters for survivors of gender-based atrocities.

    Director-General of Police (DGP) SK Singhal, accompanied by ADG (CID) Vinay Kumar and others, inaugurated the counselling cell on International Womens’ Day.

    According to an official statement, women counsellors trained by the Mahila Vikas Nigam, have been deputed to provide legal and emotional counselling to survivors.

    “This will prove to be a good help for women in difficult situations,” the DGP said.

    Other prominent senior cops who attended the inauguration of this cell were AK Ambedkar, Jitendra Kumar (ADG Hq), ADG (operation)Sushil Khopde and Dr Kamal Kishor Singh (ADG SCRB).

    NEW DELHI: On the eve of International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said much remains to be done to further improve the socio-economic status of women in the country.

    “We all have to work relentlessly towards women’s safety, education and independence because only by doing so, we will be able to pave the way for women, especially our daughters, to become more active, capable and empowered,” Kovind said.

    “On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the women,” Kovind said.

    Marked annually on March 8, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

    The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Women are an inspiration to our family, society and the nation.

    They are the essential base of the social structure, the president said.

    In India too, women have made their mark in every sphere of life. With their distinguished role in all walks of life, they have contributed significantly to the progress of the nation, he said.

    “Nevertheless, much remains to be done to further improve the socio-economic status of women in India. We all have to work relentlessly towards women’s safety, education and independence because only by doing so, we will be able to pave the way for women, especially our daughters, to become more active, capable and empowered,” Kovind said.

    “Let us dedicate this occasion of International Women’s Day to the honour, safety and empowerment of women and resolve that we will support them in changing every tradition and policy that hinders their progress,” he added.
