    Timothee Chalamet has unveiled the first look of his character from Wonka, which follows the upbringing of Roald Dahl’s popular character Willy Wonka.

    The first look features the Lady Bird-actor wearing the iconic hat donned by the character.

    It was recently announced that actors Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, and Sally Hawkins have joined the cast of the film.

    LOS ANGELES: Actor Timothee Chalamet has shared the first look of himself as the young version of author Roald Dahl’s famous character of inventor and chocolate genius Willy Wonka.

    Chalamet posted a photo on Instagram on October 10, 2021, of the eccentric character from the upcoming origin story film “Wonka,” directed by Paul King.

    The story, co-written by King, will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures before opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.

    “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last- WONKA” Chalamet, who will be singing and dancing in the several musical sequences set to appear in the film, captioned the post.

    David Heyman is producing the musical via his Heyday Films along with Luke Kelly.

    “Wonka” will be Warner Bros’ third film inspired by Dahl’s classic novel ”Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

    The first big screen adaptation, that came in 1971, starred Gene Wilder as Wonka, while the second movie, released in 2005, featured Johnny Depp in the role.

    Both the films followed a poor boy named Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous and heavily guarded chocolate factory.

    “Wonka” is scheduled to debut theatrically on March 17, 2023.

    WASHINGTON: Actors Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson and Sally Hawkins have joined the cast of ‘Wonka’, a big-screen musical reimagining Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’

    As per Variety, actor Timothee Chalamet is set to play the lead role in the upcoming project. The star will essay the world’s most famous chocolatier in the musical based on the early life of the fictional character Willy Wonka.

    Atkinson is best known for his work in the ‘Johnny English’, ‘Black Adder’ and ‘Mr. Bean’ franchises. Colman is an Oscar winner for ‘The Favourite’ and a nominee for ‘The Father’. She just captured an Emmy for playing the role of Queen Elizabeth II on ‘The Crown’. And Hawkins earned Academy Award nominations for ‘Blue Jasmine’ and ‘The Shape of Water’.

    Other cast members include Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar and Ellie White.

    Though the plot details have been kept under wraps, the Warner Bros. prequel film will explore the upbringing of the man who later created the famous house of confectionary treats.

    Dahl’s popular book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ follows a poor boy named Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous and heavily guarded chocolate factory run by one Willy Wonka. Since the upcoming movie takes place before the chocolate factory opened, Charlie and the company won’t be making an appearance in ‘Wonka’.

    Paul King, widely known for ‘Paddington’ and its sequel, is directing ‘Wonka’. David Heyman, a driving force behind the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise and the beloved ‘Paddington’ movies, will produce the film, based on a script by Simon Rich.

    Gene Wilder portrayed the candy man in the 1971 movie adaptation titled ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’, and Johnny Depp later embodied the role in the 2005 reboot ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’ directed by Tim Burton.

    Burton’s retelling briefly explored Willy Wonka’s backstory, including his candy-hating, dentist father, as well as meeting the Oompa Loompa’s that keep his factory running.

    ‘Wonka’ is scheduled to release on March 17, 2023.

    Titled “Wonka”, the story will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.

    According to Deadline, Chalamet will be singing and dancing in the several musical sequences set to appear in the film.

    The movie will be directed by “Paddington” helmer Paul King from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby.

    David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films along with Luke Kelly.

    Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire are executive producers.

    LOS ANGELES: Warner Bros is officially moving ahead with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” prequel, titled “Wonka”.

    Paul King of “Paddington” fame will tackle the movie, which will debut in theatres on March 17, 2023, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

    The project, which has a script from Simon Rich, will follow “a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.”

    David Heyman, whose credits includes the “Harry Potter” franchise and “Paddington”, is backing the movie.

    Based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, the classic story follows a poor boy named Charlie, who is one of five youngsters to win a golden ticket to tour the world-renowned, yet highly secretive, chocolate factory run by Willy Wonka.

    The character of Wonka was first brought to the screen by legendary actor Gene Wilder with 1971 movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.

    Decades later, Hollywood star Johnny Deep took over the part with 2005 reboot “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, which was directed by Tim Burton.
