  • New Zealand vs Pakistan 3rd T20I Highlights: Rizwan takes Pak to victory

Pakistan chased down 174 runs to win the third and final T20I of the three-match series against New Zealand in Napier on Tuesday as Mohammad Rizwan cracked a 59-ball 89 at the top of the order.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bowl first. Tim Seifert (35 off 20) got the hosts off to a good start but Faheem Ashraf wreaked havoc in the middle overs with his quick wickets. Glenn Phillips (31 off 20) and Devon Conway (63 off 45) stitched the innings back together and the latter guided his team to 173/7 at the end of 20 overs. Ashraf ended with impressive figures of 3/20. Rizwan ensured Pakistan got off to a great chase — building a 72-run partnership with Mohammad Hafeez (41). Some quick wickets at the death by Tim Southee (2/25) threatened to derail the chase but Pakistan reached the target with 2 balls to spare and 4 wickets in hand.

Pakistan: Mohammad Rizwan(w), Haider Ali, Shadab Khan(c), Mohammad Hafeez, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Tim Seifert(w), Kane Williamson(c), Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Kyle Jamieson, Scott Kuggeleijn, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

  • De Grandhomme out of Pakistan Tests; wait over Williamson continues

New Zealand allrounder Colin de Grandhomme has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan. Head coach Gary Stead confirmed that de Grandhomme has a “stress reaction” in his right foot and isn’t quite ready yet for running, let alone bowling.

“We still haven’t been able to get him back to running and then obviously bowling as well,” Stead said. “Looking like hopefully a mid-January return.”

The plan for Kane Williamson is to join the squad ahead of the second T20I against Pakistan but all that depends on when his first child arrives.

“There’s no update on baby news so we’ll let them carry on as is,” Stead said. “… plan still is at this stage that he will join the team for T20s two and three.”

The news on the injury front for Ajaz Patel is positive. The spinner who missed the two Tests against West Indies will be linking up with the New Zealand ‘A’ squad in Whangarei to test his calf injury.

Scan results on Lockie Ferguson are awaited. The fast bowler complained of back pain after the T20I series against West Indies and could be ruled out of action for the rest of the season.

  • New Zealand beat West Indies in second Test to sweep series 2-0

New Zealand maintained their second spot in the Test rankings Monday after thrashing West Indies by an innings and 12 runs to wrap up an emphatic series win.
The win lifted the Black Caps to 116 points, just behind Australia (116) on decimal points, and also extended their unbeaten home run to 15 Tests.
New Zealand also stayed in the hunt for the inaugural World Test Championship final as they overtook England to move into third in the standings behind Australia and India, who start a four-Test series this week.

“It does sound pretty cool,” said Tom Latham, New Zealand’s stand-in captain while Kane Williamson is on paternity leave.
“We have been playing some good cricket as of late in our conditions, and away for that matter, and it’s a pretty cool thing.”
After Williamson pulled out on the eve of the second Test, Latham said the team stepped up with Henry Nicholls overcoming a form slump to score 174 and lay the foundations of the victory.

  • Kane Williamson creates history, throws career third double century

New Zealand captain Ken Williamson has made history. He scored a magnificent double century on the second day of the first Test match against the West Indies. This is the third double century of his career. Williamson has become the fourth batsman to score 3 or more double centuries for New Zealand in Test cricket. For New Zealand, Braden McCallum has scored the most four double centuries. While Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming also scored 3-3 double centuries earlier.

Williamson’s Amazing – This is the second time Williamson has hit a double century on the field of Hamilton. Earlier, he played an unbeaten 200 runs against Bangladesh here last year. Williamson, who has been playing cricket since 2010, scored his first double century (242 runs) against Sri Lanka at Wellington ground. In a 10-year career, he has scored 22 centuries so far.

On the first day of the game, Wilson was unbeaten on 97 runs. As soon as the game started on the third day, he first completed his century. After this, he completed a double century off 369 balls. During this, he hit 30 fours. Hamilton’s ground has always been Williamson’s favorite. Here he has scored more than 12 hundred runs so far. So far, he has scored 5 centuries. During this time, his average has been more than 50.

  • West Indies no match for Williamson 97*, Latham 86 on opening day

In the 54th over, Tom Latham bunt a rising delivery towards the forward leg fielder and attempted a quick single. Kane Williamson, at the other end, backed out and sent his partner back. With the ball in the hand of the close-in fielder and the batsman half-way down the pitch, it should’ve been an easy dismissal if the fielder hadn’t missed the direct hit. That was a lot of drama for one ball, but that was about it on a day that promised a lot.

On a pitch where the shade of green didn’t look any different from that of the outfield, West Indies had elected to field after rain and wet outfield had delayed toss by two hours. However, that would in no way deter Tom Latham and Kane Williamson, who spent several hours undisturbed and unfazed in the middle. Either the grass misrepresented the demons or the West Indies bowlers failed to use it to their advantage. Maybe, both.

Latham had brushed aside the concerns of the green much before the toss, stating that he has played enough cricket on such wickets, and he put every bit of experience on show – leaving and playing the deliveries with assurance en route his sedate but effective 86.

Williamson, too, wasn’t much different. There were 23 dot deliveries faced by him, before moving from 49 to his 33rd Test fifty. Untroubled, unflustered and yet in no hurry to cross the landmark — biding his time in the middle, much like Latham was from the other end, to negate the imposing threat. And soon after he nudged a delivery past the point region for a single to bring up his fifty, a duel effort was made to push the scoring rate past the 3-run-an-over mark.

  • Williamson and Bolt rest in T20 series against West Indies

New Zealand have announced the names of 13 players for the World Test Championship and T20 match against the West Indies, with skipper Kane Williamson and fast bowler Trent Boult rested. Captain Kane Williamson and senior fast bowler Trent Boult have been rested from the T20 series keeping in mind the World Test Championship. Williamson and Bolt recently played in the IPL. Tim Southee, who was sent to rest from the third round of the Plunket Shield tournament, will now take over the captaincy in the limited overs.

New Zealand coach Gary Stade said, “We had to decide on Williamson and Bolt to prioritize Test matches. Apart from this, keeping in mind how important they are to the Test team, we have rested them in limited overs. Both played a key role in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). “

“After a 2–0 win over India and new equations, we are in the race for the final of the Test Championship.” In such a situation, Trent and Kane must be fully fit for the upcoming series. “Auckland batsman Devon Conway has been included in the squad in place of Williamson.” Fast bowler Kyle Jamison, who impressed with his bowling earlier this year against India, has also been selected for the T-20. Only the 13-member squad that played the Test against India in February has been retained once again.

Tim Southee (captain), Hamish Bennett, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamison, Darryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Siffert (wicketkeeper), Ross Taylor.

Kane Williamson (captain), Tom Blendall, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhom, Kyle Jamison, Tom Latham, Henry Nichols, Ejaz Patel, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wegner, BJ Watling (wicketkeeper), Will Young.

  • Huge amount of talent,’ Kane Williamson says India youngster is an ‘exciting player for the future’

Sunrisers Hyderabad displayed a fighting spirit in the Indian Premier League 2020 as they fought hard to make way to the 2nd Qualifier. But in the do-or-die clash against Delhi Capitals, the David Warner-led side lost by 17 runs and failed to make way into the final. SRH suffered a major set back with Wriddhiman Saha, who had been integral in helping SRH through to the playoffs, suffering an injury and getting ruled out from the match.

SRH had to include Sreevats Goswami in the playing XI once again. Being asked to chase 190 by DC, SRH decided to promote youngster Priyam Garg to the opening slot in place of Saha – a move that did not pan out as expected.

Garg was cleaned up by Marcus Stoinis after scoring 17 runs in 12 balls in the 5th over. SRH batsman Kane Williamson was asked about the move at the post-match press conference, and he said that the India youngster has a great future ahead of him.

“I don’t know the exact thoughts but what I feel is that Priyam has a huge amount of talent and throughout this season, he had a lot of repeated opportunity,” Williamson said. Garg did not enjoy a good season with SRH, scoring just 14 runs in 10 games at an average of 14.77 and a strike rate of 119.81. But Williamson insisted that Garg has an exciting future ahead of him.

“Every time you watch him play in the nets, you can see how well he hits the ball. He hit some beautiful shots and he is an exciting player for the future, for sure,” The New Zealand captain said. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will now face off against the Mumbai Indians in the final of IPL 2020.
