The alarming rise in water-borne disease cases in Bavdhan continues to concern residents and authorities. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials confirmed on Thursday that the total number of reported patients has reached 94, with an additional 51 cases identified in a recent surge. This outbreak, primarily affecting Gunde Vasti, Patil Nagar, Jadhav Vasti, and the Gaothan area, has seen most patients presenting with symptoms such as vomiting, loose motions, and diarrhea.

The PMC health department initiated surveillance operations in the affected localities from Tuesday. Between October 8th and 9th, the PMC hospital’s outpatient department saw 20 new cases, while an additional 31 were identified during door-to-door surveillance. This proactive approach helped to quickly identify and manage the growing number of infections.

Data reveals a wide age distribution among the affected. The most significant number of cases, 55, were found in the 16 to 45-year-old demographic. Other age groups impacted include 20 patients aged 46 to 60, nine individuals over 60, seven children between 6 and 15, and three young children aged 0 to 5.

Despite the rising numbers, PMC health chief Dr. Nina Borade stated that most patients exhibit mild symptoms and require only outpatient treatment. She reassured the public that while 94 cases have been reported, the symptoms largely developed three to four days prior, with no new immediate symptom onset. The situation is being closely monitored.

To address the root cause, the PMC has begun collecting water samples from the affected areas for laboratory analysis. Over the past three days, 27 samples have been gathered. This investigation is crucial to pinpoint the source of contamination and prevent future occurrences. Authorities assure that the water supply issue has been resolved and residents are now receiving safe water.

Panic ensued in Lavapur Narayan village, under the Mahnar police station area of Hajipur district in Bihar, when approximately 20 people fell ill after consuming jackfruit. They were rushed to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital for treatment. Doctors provided initial care before referring them to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

According to the relatives of the affected children, ripe jackfruit was distributed on Friday. After eating it, women and children began experiencing stomach pain and vomiting, followed by fever. Gradually, around 20 people fell ill. The sick, including children and women, were admitted to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital for treatment.

Dr. A.K. Yadav, stationed at the Sadar Hospital, reported that 14 patients were admitted and are undergoing treatment. He stated that all fell ill after eating jackfruit, and the case appears to be food poisoning. Baby Devi, the mother of one of the sick children, said that on Friday, their neighbor Asha Devi had given out the jackfruit to eat. Women, children, and the elderly had all consumed it.
