  • CSK vs RCB Probable Playing 11 IPL 2024: MS Dhoni's Team Faces Injury Issues As Virat Kohli Set To Return | cricket news

IPL 2024 could not have asked for a better match to be its opening game as the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the iconic MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. This edition of the Indian Premier League is of huge importance to MS Dhoni and Virat Koli. It could be Dhoni's last IPL as the CSK captain is already 42 years old and his body may not be able to cope up with the challenges on the field next year.

At the same time, Kohli's team RCB have never won the championship and it will mean a lot for Faf du Plessis and Co to finally get their hands on the trophy. Kohli, who led the team for many years, quit captaincy ahead of IPL 2022 but wants to finish his IPL career here in Bengaluru only, possible with the elusive silverware in his hands.

CSK look very strong on paper

Dhoni and CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan have put out a brilliant squad on the paper after making some valuable buys at the IPL 2024 auction in December 2023. They have a good mix of experienced players and young legs.

Their two huge concerns are the fitness of batters Shivam Dube and Devon Conway. They have been a big reason behind CSK's several wins in the last 3 seasons. It is highly likely that either both or one of them does not feature in the playing 11 in the first two weeks of IPL, including the opening game against RCB.

All eyes will be on Ravindra Jadeja, who had a great time playing the Test series vs England, stroking a century in one of the games. Deepak Chahar returns and would want to make a statement with a good show in this edition of IPL.

How do RCB look this year?

RCB's batting looks solid as ever. There is Virat Kohli. There is Glenn Maxwell. Faf du Plessis leads. If these three have a good IPL, RCB should easily make it to the playoffs. But to win the league, you need the whole team to fire. That is why it is important that the local talent in the form of Anuj Rawat, Rajat Patidar, Karn Sharma step up and be counted.

CSK vs RCB Probable Playing 11s

RCB should have it easy while picking their playing 11s as they do not have any major injury concern in the camp. CSK may replace Conway with Rachin Ravindra at the top.

CSK Probable XI vs RCB: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana/Mustafizur Rahman.

RCB Probable XI vs CSK: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Anuj Rawat, Karn Sharma, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Siraj.

  • Most Sixes In IPL History Record Belongs To T20 World Cup Winner; He Is Not MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard Or AB de Villiers

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have hit 257 and 239 sixes respectively in Indian Premier League. The batter who has smashed the most does not play IPL anymore but he is still sitting comfortably at a distance.

The fans discussed what it could be that keeps Virat away from cricket. Rumors began that Virat’s mother was not well. But his elder brother Vikas ended the rumors by posting an update on his Instagram, underlining the fact that their mother was fine.

Others had rightly guessed that Anushka was pregnant with their second child as she had been spotted during the World Cup last year and many events after it with a baby bump. However, these remain just speculations as unlike the last time, Virushka had kept mum on the birth of the child.

On February 20, the world got to know what those personal reasons were because of which Kohli missed the Tests vs England. As soon as the news was announced, rumors spread that Kohli may not join the India squad for the fourth Test but he could be flying to Dharamsala to play the fifth and final match. • What Is The Meaning Of Akaay? Know The Significance Of Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma’s Second Child | People News

New Delhi: Leaving the internet joyous, actress Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli’s latest post announcing the birth of their second child have made many happy. Nation’s favorite couple Virushka have welcomed a baby boy, and they’ve named him Akaay. According to reports, ‘Akaay’ is a name with Turkish roots.

Undoubtedly, the name is intriguing and it carries a gender-neutral meaning. It signifies radiant brilliance and a luminous glow akin to a full moon. What’s more interesting is that ‘Akaay’ may have connections to the Hindi word ‘kaya’ that means body, suggesting a significance beyond physical existence. However, in Sanskrit, the name implies someone without a body, possessing an incorporeal nature.

The couple, known for choosing unique and meaningful names, previously explained that their daughter’s name, Vamika, is derived from Sanskrit and is an alternative name for Goddess Durga, adding a sacred touch to her identity.

Taking to Instagram, Virushka posted, “With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika’s little brother into this world! • ‘I Will Ask Dhoni Why Was I Dropped,’ Virat Kohli’s Contemporary Seeks Explanation From Former Captain After Retirement | cricket news

Manoj Tiwary could have been one of the greatest sports stories in India. Alas, he retires from cricket having underachieved massively with just 15 international matches to his name. Tiwary played his last cricket match, a Ranji Trophy game against Bihar at home ground Eden Gardens for Bengal. As he leaves the field, he talks about his regrets, one of them if not playing any Test match for India.

But Tiwary also regrets not having a long white-ball career with India either. He does not blame his captain at that time who was MS Dhoni. Tiwary, however, says he will certainly ask questions to Dhoni whenever he meets him the next time on why he was dropped despite no fault of his own.

Tiwary had scored his first ODI hundred vs West Indies in December 2011 but had to wait for seven months before getting another game to represent the country. Tiwary missed 14 straight matches for India despite his hundred and was even ignored for Australia tour in 2012 while Virat Kohli, Suresh Rain who were struggling for runs got picked.

Thank you Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club for the wonderful farewell felicitation. Your constant support throughout my career had been a blessing. My sincere gratitude! __#GoodByeCricket #CSJC pic.twitter.com/eLYMZGkNkq — MANOJ TIWARY (@tiwarymanoj) February 19, 2024

“I want to hear from him whenever I get the opportunity. I will definitely ask this question. I would like to ask Dhoni why I was dropped from the team after scoring the century, especially in that tour of Australia where nobody was scoring runs, neither was Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Suresh Raina. I have nothing to lose now,” Tiwary said.

Tiwary could not make his Test debut. The batsman played 12 ODIs, scoring 287 runs with one hundred and fifty each to his name. He also featured in 3 T20Is, but scored just 15 runs. Tiwary played 98 IPL matches as well and accumulated 1695 runs. But he could not make his Test debut, a regret with which he has to live his life after retiring from the sport. He also questions why he was not picked despite averaging 65 in first-class games.

“When I had completed playing 65 first-class matches, my batting average was around 65. The Australia team had toured India then, and I had scored 130 in a friendly game, then I scored 93 against England in a friendly game. I was very close, but they picked Yuvraj Singh instead. So Test cap and the fact that I was ignored after getting the Man of the Match award for scoring a hundred…I was ignored for 14 straight matches. When self-confidence is at its peak and someone destroys that, it tends to kill that player,” Tiwary said.

  • Breaking: Virat Kohli Withdraws From India vs England Test Series | cricket news

Former Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, has taken the decision to withdraw from the remaining three Tests of the ongoing series against England according to Indian Express. This unexpected move comes amid crucial moments in the series, leaving fans and analysts puzzled over its implications. In its press release, BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed, “The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series.”

    Personal Priorities Over Cricket

Having flown out from South Africa in the midst of the series against the Proteas, Kohli cited personal reasons for his withdrawal, signaling a departure from his usual commitment to representing the nation on the cricket field. Despite his dedication to the sport, Kohli emphasized the need to prioritize personal situations that demand his immediate attention, a sentiment echoed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the senior national selection committee.

    A First for Kohli

Kohli’s decision marks the first instance in his illustrious career where he won’t be part of a home series, underscoring the gravity of the circumstances prompting his withdrawal. With the series finely poised at 1-1 after India’s resolute performance in Vizag, the selectors initially refrained from making significant changes to the winning combination.

    Injury Woes: Shreyas Iyer Out

Adding to India’s woes, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the next three Tests due to injury concerns. Complaints of stiffness in the back and groin pain during play have sidelined Iyer, with the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru tasked with monitoring his recovery progress.

    Reinforcements and Adjustments

In the wake of these setbacks, the Indian team management has made crucial decisions to bolster the squad. The return of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, both declared fit after missing the second Test, injects much-needed balance into the side. Furthermore, the inclusion of Akash Deep, alongside the management’s decision to manage Jasprit Bumrah’s workload effectively, aims to maintain the team’s competitive edge.

  • IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli To Miss 3rd Test Vs England But Likely To Make Comeback For 4th, 5th Matches; KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja Could Return In Rajkot | cricket news

In what is a huge blow to the Indian team, Virat Kohli is likely to miss the third Test in Rajkot against England as well after he missed the first two matches ‘due to personal reasons’. As per a BCCI official, Kohli has not yet informed the selectors about his return to the national team which means he misses out on the selection for at least the Rajkot match.

“Virat will decide when he wants to make a comeback to the Indian side. He hasn’t informed us till now but whenever he decides to play, he will be included in the team,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying in the Indian Express.

The good news from India’s point of view is that batter KL Rahul and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are likely to return to the squad after getting fit. Rahul And Jadeja missed the Visakhapatnam Test due to quad strain and hamstring injury respectively.

Indian team players have been asked to report for the third Test at Rajkot on February 11. The match starts on February 13.

The reason for Kohli missing the Test could be anything but as per AB de Villiers’ recent comments, he and wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child. Talking to his fans over social media, De Villiers had informed, “Yes, his second child is on the way. It’s family time and things are important to him… I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. He has made absolutely the right decision.”

BCCI, when announcing about Kohli’s absence from the 2nd Test vs England last month, had written: “While representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention. The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and The team management has extended its support to the star batsman.”

If Kohli is not returning then expect Rajat Patidar to continue being the par of the Test squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel is yet to announce the squad for the remaining three Tests. It will be interesting to see whether the team is picked for just the Rajkot match or all the remaining games. It is expected that BCCI will announce the squad on Thursday as there are less than 5 days remaining now for the third Test.

  • WATCH: Shubman Gill’s Special Request To Captain Rohit Sharma Following Discussion Of Batting At Virat Kohli’s Position | cricket news

India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill was given the Polly Umrigar award for best men’s cricketer of the year 2022-23 at the BCCI awards on Tuesday (January 23). Gill had a stellar year in all three formats scoring a remarkable figure of 1,583 runs in ODI cricket with an average of 63.36 and strike-rate of 105.45. Arguably, Gill is on the right track as last year he became the fastest to reach 2,000 ODI runs which he did in just 38 innings during a World Cup match against the Netherlands.

Gill and Harsha Bhogle had a quick chat after the young batsman was handed the award by BCCI secretary Jay Shah in which they discussed batting at number 3 which was Virat Kohli’s position for almost a long period of time and fielding at short-leg. Gill make a cheeky request to captain Rohit Sharma when Harsha Bhogle told him that as he gets senior he will be moved from that position.

Playing for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Gill maintained his impressive form. With three hundreds among his 890 runs, the second-highest total in an IPL season, he was awarded the Orange Cap. Notable was his performance in the Qualifier 2 match, where he hit the greatest individual score in IPL playoff history with 129 runs.

Former India cricketers Ravi Shastri and Farokh Engineer were awarded the prestigious Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award on Tuesday during the Naman Awards.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah presented the award to Shastri and Farokh. In Shastri’s international cricket career which panned from 1981 to 1992, Shastri served as a highly useful all-rounder, capable of playing any role for his team and grinding it out in tough situations. He often played as an opener or in the middle order while batting and could deliver some crucial overs of left-arm spin too.

Shastri had a solid Test record. In 80 Test matches, he scored 3,830 runs at an average of 35.79. He scored 11 centuries and 12 fifties in 121 innings of his career, with the best individual score of 206. The all-rounder has also taken 151 wickets, with best bowling figures of 5/75.

Shastri is part of the team which won the 50-over Cricket World Cup in 1983. In the tournament, he scored 40 runs in five innings, with the best score of 17 and took a total of four wickets, with the best bowling spell of 3/26.

Another career-defining moment came for Shastri in 1985 when he played a big role in his team’s win at the World Championship of Cricket, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

Shastri won the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award for scoring 182 runs in five matches at an average of 45.50, with three fifties. He also took eight wickets, finishing as the joint-third-highest wicket-taker. (MS Dhoni Did Not Attend Ram Temple Inauguration, Wife Sakshi Shares Pic Of ‘Ram Lalla’ On Insta; Check Here)

After the conclusion of his international cricket career in 1992, he was heard as a commentator. His authoritative voice, enthusiasm and knowledge of the game make him one of the country’s most beloved commentators. His calls during India’s winning moments in T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 still live in the minds of millions.

On the other hand, Farokh was well known for his craftmanship with the bat and agility behind the stumps. His skillset made him best suited for keeping to the legendary spin quartet of Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar and Venkataraghavan.

Farokh during his career played 46 Test matches for India and amassed 2611 runs which included two centuries and 16 half-centuries.

His most memorable moment as a batsman was against West Indies at Madras in 1966–67.
