LOS ANGELES: Sony Pictures is developing a third instalment in the Tom Hardy-led “Venom” franchise.

The film comes following the back-to-back box office successes of 2021’s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” and 2018’s “Venom”.

The movie franchise features Hardy as journalist Eddie Brock and his unwitting sidekick and parasite Venom, the otherworldly lethal protector in Sony’s universe of Marvel characters.

According to Variety, the studio is also planning one more film in the ‘Ghostbusters’ movie series.

The film will be a follow-up to 2021’s reboot “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”.

Sony announced both the projects at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners.

Details of either of the projects were not shared at the event.

  • It’s a joy to play two different parts of a psyche in ‘Venom’, says Tom Hardy

LOS ANGELES: Actor Tom Hardy, who has reprised his role as Eddie Brock/ Venom in the upcoming film “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, said it’s fun to explore two different sides of a psyche in the anti-hero franchise.

In the sequel to the 2018 original film “Venom”, Hardy returns as journalist Eddie Brock, who unites with an alien symbiote to form Venom.

Hardy, the star of films such as “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Dunkirk” and “This Means War”, also praised screenplay writer Kelly Marcel, who developed the story that she wrote with the actor in this film.

“It’s a joy to play two different parts of a psyche because Venom and Eddie are one for me, they are just differentiated by the fact that one is the monster and one is Eddie but they are always contained within one individual,” said Hardy.

“It’s entirely orchestrated by the script and the script has been created by a writer who has been in the driving seat from the get-go so it’s great fun and I just want to keep challenging it and pushing it and seeing what else I can do with it,” the actor added.

“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is directed by Andy Serkis and also features Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams and Naomie Harris.

Harrelson stars as the antagonist Cletus Kasady aka Carnage, who made a last-minute cameo in “Venom”.

  • Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ to hit theatres in October

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Sony Pictures’ much-awaited superhero film ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ starring Tom Hardy is set to debut in theatres on October 1, earlier than expected.

As per Variety, the sequel to Marvel’s superhero film was scheduled to premiere in October 2020 but, due to the pandemic, was pushed to June 2021, then late September, and, most recently, October 15.

Now, shortly after Disney reported a bigger-than-anticipated opening weekend for ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ in theaters, Sony announced October 1 as the new theatrical release date for ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’.

The well-acclaimed ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ starring Canadian actor Simu Liu and Awkwafina, broke Labour Day weekend records recently, according to Variety. Hence, it was a green light to all the studios and movie theatre owners alike that audiences would visit their local multiplex for the right movie, despite the fear of the delta variant of COVID-19.

‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ once again stars Hardy as Eddie Brock, a journalist who has an alien symbiote living within him. Together, they are Venom. This time around, Woody Harrelson also stars after the actor portrayed serial killer Cletus Kasady in the post-credits scene for the first ‘Venom’, released in 2018.

The new movie will see Harrelson’s Kasady transform into Carnage, a villain known as Venom’s chief antagonist in the comics.

Andy Serkis has directed ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’. The Columbia Pictures film (in association with Marvel and Tencent Pictures) also stars Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris as the comic book villain Shriek.

The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker.

The original ‘Venom’, directed by Ruben Fleischer, was a surprise smash hit, earning USD 856 million globally. It is one of the multiple movies set in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel characters.

Actor-filmmaker Andy Serkis has directed the movie from a script written by Kelly Marcel.
