Prospective buyers of the Mahindra XUV700 might find the timing opportune, especially with Diwali approaching. The automaker has implemented substantial price reductions on the XUV700, passing on the benefits of the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cut to consumers. This adjustment precedes the implementation of new rates scheduled for September 22nd. Mahindra has also detailed the specific savings available on different variants of its popular models.

The tax rate applicable to large SUVs has decreased from 48% to 40%, resulting in savings ranging from Rs 88,900 to Rs 1.43 lakh, depending on the specific variant. The XUV700 is classified as an SUV, and the updated GST rates apply to vehicles that are over 4 meters in length and have an engine capacity exceeding 1,500 cc. Previously, these vehicles were taxed at a rate of 28% GST plus a 20% cess, totaling 48%. The revised regulations streamline the tax to a flat 40%.

In Patna, Bihar, a protest erupted following the deaths of a brother and sister found inside a car. The demonstration, held by the family and supporters, turned violent on Atal Path. Protesters damaged and set fire to several vehicles, and reports indicate that police were also targeted with stones. Several individuals were reportedly injured in the clashes as authorities attempt to restore order.

The bodies of the siblings were discovered on August 15th inside a car in the Indrapuri area of Patna’s Patliputra police station jurisdiction. The car was parked approximately 200 meters from their home. The children had left for coaching, and when they failed to return, their family began searching. The bodies were found in a car parked near an empty plot. Police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.

Authorities have reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area but have not found conclusive evidence. The children’s father, Ganesh Kumar, and other family members have accused the coaching teacher of involvement in the deaths, though police investigations have cleared the teacher, finding that the children were returning safely from coaching.

Police suggest the deaths may be accidental, while the investigation continues. The family alleges the children were deliberately placed in the car, calling the deaths a conspiracy. The family protested four days prior to this incident and also gathered on Monday evening, accusing the police of negligence.

Kartikeya K. Sharma, the SSP of Patna, stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing. He indicated that, so far, there is no evidence of homicide. He mentioned that the family has been informed of the situation and that action will be taken against those who took the law into their own hands. Those involved in the violent acts have been identified, and an FIR will be filed. Sharma condemned the violent protests and stated that there are established forums for raising concerns. He also emphasized that without evidence of murder, no further action can be taken. He suggested the events appeared to be pre-planned and resulted in injuries and the burning of two vehicles.

The state government has sanctioned the purchase of 1255 four-wheeler vehicles and 1697 two-wheeler vehicles to strengthen police patrolling across various police stations. This decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting, along with several other significant proposals. The third monsoon session of the Sixth Assembly will be convened from August 1st to August 7th, comprising a total of five working days. The cabinet approved this schedule as well.

The cabinet meeting, led to a decision to procure Mahindra Bolero four-wheelers and TVS Apache motorcycles for police use. The total expenditure for these vehicles is estimated to be ₹146 crore 79 lakh 63 thousand 849. Each Mahindra Bolero will cost ₹9 lakh 59 thousand, and each TVS Apache will cost ₹1 lakh 14 thousand 563. The purchase will be completed over two financial years. This decision was prompted by the dilapidated condition of existing vehicles, with 1079 four-wheelers and 1133 two-wheelers deemed unfit for use.

Other key decisions included an increase in dearness allowance for state employees and pensioners, the amendment of guidelines for district planning, and the approval of infrastructure projects. The cabinet also addressed personnel matters, approving disciplinary actions and appointments. Additionally, decisions were made regarding the National Pension Scheme, medical reimbursements, and various operational and regulatory matters.
