  • New UK variant of SARS-CoV2 found in samples of six UK returnees in India: Health Ministry

    A total of 6 samples of 6 UK returnee persons have been found to be positive with the new U.K variant genome. 3 in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, 2 in CCMB, Hyderabad and 1 in NIV, Pune.

    All these persons have been kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by respective State Governments. Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is going on.

    The situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the States for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing & dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs.

    It is important to note that the presence of the new UK Variant has already been reported by Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore, so far.

    The entire issue was examined at length by NTF on 26th December 2020 and the NTF concluded that there is no need to change either the existing National Treatment Protocol or existing Testing Protocols in view of the mutant variant. NTF also recommended that in addition to the existing surveillance strategy, it is critical to conduct enhanced genomic surveillance.

  • UK COVID Strain Detected In Eight European Countries, Says WHO’s Regional Director

    The new strain of the coronavirus has been detected in eight European countries, the regional director of WHO Europe Hans Kluge said, adding that the World Health Organisation (WHO) is continuing to monitor the situation. He warned that the new strain seems to be spreading among younger age groups, unlike the previous strains. The WHO official also called for strengthening the existing protective measures, such as social distancing, wearing face masks, and staying in core support bubbles.

    Hans Kluge, in a tweet, apprised that eight European nations have now identified the new COVID-19 variant, and WHO is continuing to monitor the situation. “The variant also seems to be spreading among younger age groups, unlike previous strains. Vigilance is important while research is ongoing to define its impact,” Kluge said in a subsequent tweet.

  • UK Reports Two Cases Of New South African COVID-19 Strain, Tightens Lockdown Restrictions

    The United Kingdom reported identifying two cases of another new strain of COVID-19 linked to South Africa on Wednesday, December 23. Like the UK variant identified earlier, the new South African variant of COVID-19 is also adding to the surge in cases of infection, with experts warning the country is probably facing a much larger second wave.

    “Both [cases of the new variant] are contacts of cases who have travelled from South Africa over the past few weeks,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock while addressing a briefing from 10 Downing Street. “This new variant is highly concerning because it is yet more transmissible and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant that has been discovered in the UK,” he added.

    This motorcycle has been prepared by the company on a new platform and a new design has been seen in it. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 features modern features and equipment. It also gets a powerful engine of 350cc, which generates 20.2 Bhp of power and 27 newton meter of torque. It also has a 5 speed gearbox. With this motorcycle, the company will give a 3-year standard warranty.

    Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has been introduced in three variants Fireball, Stellar and Supernova and customers will be able to buy it in a total of seven colors. Talking about design, it has been given the look of a cruiser bike. It gets spherical halogen headlamps, fuel tank in a tier drop shape, rear back rest and split seats. Also, LED DRL, LED tail lamp and high handlebar are provided. Turn-by-turn navigation is provided in the motorcycle in all variants of the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The company has named it ‘Tripper Navigation’. The new bike has features like USB port and Bluetooth connectivity. For suspension, telescopic forks, twin-side rear shock absorbers have been installed in front of it.

    Single disc brakes with dual channel ABS are available on both sides for braking. This bike gets machined alloy wheels, chrome on the indicator, dual-tone color scheme, windscreen and blacked out mechanical bits everywhere.
