    By Express News Service

The makers of Joaquin Phoenix’s Napoleon have unveiled a new trailer for the film. Directed by Ridley Scott, the more than two-minute-long trailer offers a gripping glimpse into the title character’s ruthless battle strategies.

Napoleon is the latest movie from director Ridley Scott, whose notable titles over the years include Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and House of Gucci.

The trailer opens with a brutal moment on the battlefield where Napoleon blasts the sheet of ice beneath the feet of an entire cavalry, sending them sinking into the water below. The remainder of the trailer showcases a similar brutality in his approach to the rest of his life.

Along with many shots of Phoenix’s titular commander, the trailer also includes the romantic relationship between Bonaparte and his wife, Empress Joséphine.

The film marks Phoenix’s second collaboration with Scott after the much-acclaimed 2000 film Gladiator. Vanessa Kirby essays the role of Josephine, the emperor’s wife.

Napoleon also stars Tahar Rahim, Mark Bonnar, Rupert Everett, and Youssef Kerkour. Penned by David Scarpa, the film is backed by Apple TV in association with Sony Pictures Entertainment.  The film will focus on the world-famous ruler’s origins, his elevation to being a ruthless emperor through the course of various battles, and strategies.

Napoleon is all set to hit the theatres on November 22. After this, the film will be available for streaming on Apple TV+

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Oscar-nominated actor Vanessa Kirby will now play Josephine in Ridley Scott’s historical film “Kitbag”, after Jodie Comer dropped out of the project due to scheduling issues.

According to The Hollywood Feature, Comer exited the movie as its filming was overlapping with her first West End stage production, “Prima Facie”.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID and changes of schedule, I don’t think I can make Kitbag work right now due to a scheduling conflict,” the “Killing Eve” star told THR’s Scott Feinberg on his Awards Chatter podcast.

It would have been Comer’s second film with Scott post another period drama, 2021’s “The Last Duel”.

“Kitbag” will revolve around the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, the 19th century French military leader and emperor to be played by Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix.

The film will also focus on the love story between Napoleon and his wife, Josephine.

It marks the reunion between Scott and Phoenix after their multiple Oscar-winning movie “Gladiator” (2000).

Shooting on “Kitbag” is scheduled to begin in Europe later this month, while Comer is set to start rehearsals for her first West End stage production in March, for a limited engagement from April to June.

Kirby, who rose to international prominence with her portrayal of Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of the Netflix series “The Crown”, received an Oscar nomination for “Pieces of a Woman” last year.

She will next reprise her role of the arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis/ White Widow in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible VII”, fronted by Tom Cruise.

LOS ANGELES: Actor Vanessa Kirby has struck a first-look deal with streaming service Netflix.

As part of the deal, Kirby and her newly launched production banner Aluna Entertainment will develop and produce a slate of feature films.

Kirby is no stranger to Netflix as she broke out with the streamer’s critically-acclaimed series “The Crown”, in which she played Princess Margaret in the first two season.

She also starred in 2020 drama movie “Pieces of a Woman” and received a best actress nod at the Academy Awards earlier this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kirby will work with former Film4 senior executive Lauren Dark and their aim is to “focus on projects that explore the spectrum of the female experience and aim to make high-end engrossing stories with universal appeal”.

“It has long been a dream of mine to produce and I have found the perfect partners in my friends at Netflix.

They have been an inspiring creative home for me from ‘The Crown’ to ‘Pieces of a Woman’ and I am thrilled to be on this journey alongside them,” said Kirby.

“In Lauren, I’ve found a true ally and we are united in our ambition to explore stories that relate to the uncharted female experience,” she added.

The actor is currently working on Florian Zeller’s “The Son”, co-starring Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern.

Kirby will also feature in “Suddenly” opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and the next installment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

  • Jake Gyllenhaal, Vanessa Kirby to headline survival thriller ‘Suddenly’

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby are teaming up for survival thriller “Suddenly”.

Thomas Bidegain, who is known for writing films such as “Rust And Bone”, “A Prophet” and “Dheepan”, will direct the movie, based on Isabelle Autissier’s French-language novel “Soudain Seuls”.

According to Deadline, Bidegain is also adapting the script for the English-language movie, which hails from StudioCanal.

The story follows a couple who become stranded on an island in the South Atlantic and must fight for survival when their dream journey becomes a nightmare.

The novel shines a light on the dynamics of their relationship and also holds a mirror up to modern society.

Gyllenhaal will produce the project with Riva Marker through their Nine Stories banner, alongside Alain Attal.

Artemis Productions and True North Productions will co-produce.

“Suddenly” marks second collaboration between Gyllenhaal and Bidegain, who had co-written the actor’s 2018 movie “The Sisters Brothers”.

Gyllenhaal will next star in “The Guilty”, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and Michael Bay’s “Ambulance”.

Kirby was recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in “Pieces Of A Woman”.

She has also featured blockbusters such as “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”.
