  • Modi praises Yogi, hails UP’s ‘double-engine’ economic growth

    LUCKNOW:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Uttar Pradesh’s “double-engine” growth while interacting with beneficiaries of a central food security scheme in Uttar Pradesh through video-conferencing.

    He also praised the Yogi Adityanath government for proper implementation of central schemes in the state. Modi said it was a matter of immense satisfaction that every grain sent to the state reached the intended beneficiaries. “The way Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is being implemented in the state defines the new Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

    The Prime Minister also praised the state government for its fight against the pandemic. “Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to administer over 5 crore population with vaccine doses. This shows how people belied the misconceptions about the ‘Made in India’ vaccine and took the shots,” said PM Modi.

    The prime minister also said the construction of the Ram Temple is in full swing.  “Last year, on this day, Indians took the first genuine step towards the construction of a grand Ram temple in Aydodhya by performing bhoomi pujan and laying the foundation stone. Now the construction of the temple is going on in full swing and the dream of Indians is taking shape,” he said. 

    Modi lashed out at the opposition for disrupting the parliament.  “Few people are doing everything to stop the progress of this country. They are trying to stop Parliament, but people will not tolerate this,” he said. The Prime Ministers expressed faith that “130 crore population of this country will face every challenge and move forward despite all obstacles”.

  • After orphans, Yogi govt to compensate women who have been left destitute during pandemic

    LUCKNOW: After coming to the rescue of COVID orphans and other bereaved children with monetary help, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to introduce a scheme to provide financial assistance to women who have been left destitute during the pandemic.

    As per government sources, the authorities have drawn a roadmap for the implementation of the scheme, whereby these women would be given financial assistance of Rs 2000 per month.

    The proposal is reportedly ready to be presented before the state cabinet in the next meeting. As soon as the proposal gets a nod from the cabinet, it would come into effect.

    CM Yogi Adityanath had sought a list of such women since March 2020 from the Women Welfare Department. The state government has decided to give them the benefits of other schemes also.

    Besides providing them monthly financial assistance, the state government intends to extend to them the benefits under the free ration scheme, house under central scheme– Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, medical insurance benefit under Mukhyamantri Jan Aroygya Yojna, etc. The state government would also arrange dwelling for homeless aged women, said sources.

    Notably, in the last cabinet meeting on Monday, the Yogi government had given approval to a scheme for children who became orphans due to causes other than COVID by giving them Rs 2500 per month under Mukhyamantri Bal Sewa Yojna.

    Under this scheme, children who lost one or both parents or legal guardian due to reasons other than the pandemic will get a monetary help of Rs 2500 per month.

    Earlier, on July 22, the Yogi government had launched a scheme under Mukhyamantri Bal Sewa Yojna to provide financial assistance of Rs 4000 per month to children who lost their parents due to COVID. Among 4,050 such children, 240 lost both their parents, while 3810 children lost one of their parents or their legal guardian due to Covid since March 2020.

    To ensure these children’s education and to hone their skills, schools have also been put in place at the commissionerate level. In case of orphaned girl children, arrangements have been made at Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya to provide them special care and also the government will give Rs 1,01,000 at the time of their marriage.

  • Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi slams Uttar Pradesh govt over doctor’s killing

    NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Yogi Adityanath dispensation over the killing of an Ayurvedic doctor in Sitapur, saying the security system for the common people is in a poor state and the Uttar Pradesh government is not doing anything except indulging in false propaganda.

    “In Sitapur, UP, a doctor was hacked to death by criminals who stormed his clinic,” she said.

    “‘Such incidents are creating fear in the minds of the people of the state. The security system for the common people is in such a poor state and the government is not doing anything except indulging in false propaganda,” the Congress general secretary said in a tweet in Hindi.

    Munendra Pratap Verma, an Ayurvedic doctor who ran his own private clinic from his home in Mudrasan village, was attacked by accused Achchey Lal Verma with a sharp-edged weapon multiple times on Tuesday, police said.

    The doctor’s father who was present at the time also suffered injuries while trying to save his son.

    The doctor died on the spot, they said.

  • Man arrested for ‘objectionable’ comments about RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on WhatsApp message

    SAMBHAL: A young man has been arrested for making alleged objectionable comments about RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on a WhatsApp message in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Wednesday.

    A case was registered against the man under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and he was arrested based on a complaint filed by the district coordinator of the RSS-backed student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the officer said.

    “Vishal Maurya of Ganesh Colony here made some objectionable comments about Bhagwat. A complaint was filed by ABVP district coordinator Akash Kumar stating that his comments hurt their feeling and that the youth also misbehaved with him,” Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra said.

    The man’s mobile phone has been seized and a detailed probe into the matter is underway, the officer said.

  • UP: Third-year student found dead in Gorakhpur university; dept head, assistants booked

    GORAKHPUR: The head of the DDU Gorakhpur University home science department and her assistants have been booked for murder after the body of a third-year student was found hanging in the institution, police said on Monday.

    As per reports, Priyanka Kumari, a student of the department, had gone to the university on Saturday to sit for an examination but her body was found hanging in a storeroom later in the day.

    “On the basis of a written complaint of the father of the deceased student, a case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against the head of the home science department of DDU Gorakhpur University and also against her assistants.

    Police have initiated the probe, and soon the truth will be revealed,” Superintendent of Police (City) Sonam Kumar said.

    Earlier, police and the university administration were treating it as a case of suicide, but a post-mortem examination revealed that an ante-mortem injury led to suffocation.

    The victim’s father subsequently gave a written complaint, and the case was lodged on Sunday night.

    The complainant raised many questions such as why her feet were touching the ground while her body was hanging by a dupatta, why her clothes were dirty with dust and mud, and why her sandals were lying far away from the body in the room, the police said.

    The family members cremated the body on Monday, they said.

    Students’ wings of various political parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, the ABVP, and BJP MLA Radha Mohan Das Agarwal have also demanded justice for the family.

  • On the run for 3 years, man wanted for facilitating hawala payments to Pakistani handlers held in UP

    LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terror Squad has arrested a man from the state’s Gorakhpur district for his alleged involvement in sending money through the hawala route to Pakistani handlers, officials said on Monday.

    The accused, Dinesh Kumar Singh alias Ajay Kumar Singh alias AK Singh (46), a resident of Gorakhpur, was arrested on Sunday.

    He was evading arrest for the past three years and carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, they said.

    In a statement issued here, the ATS said, “Information was received that on the instructions of Pakistani handlers, some people were using fake documents to open accounts in different banks, duping people to deposit money in those accounts, withdrawing the deposited money and sending it to the Pakistani handlers through the hawala route.

    ” “On March 24, 2018, accused persons Arshad Naeem, Naseem Ahmed, Mukesh Prasad, Musharraf Ansari alias Nikhil Rai alias Dabloo, Sushil Rai alias Ankur Rai and Dayanand Yadav were arrested,” it said.

    In this regard, a case was registered on March 25, 2018 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the ATS police station in Lucknow and during investigation, Singh’s name came to light, it added.

    “Accused Dinesh Kumar Singh along with Musharraf used fake documents and his photograph to open accounts in different banks.

    He used to hand over the accounts to Musharraf, who withdrew money from the accounts and sent it (to Pakistani handlers) through hawala.

    “This gang had opened more than 150 accounts using fake documents and carried out transactions worth lakhs of rupees.

    After withdrawing the money, it was sent to Delhi through other members of the gang and from there it was sent outside (the country) through hawala,” the statement said.

    “On August 1, Dinesh Kumar Singh was arrested from Gorakhpur by the ATS,” it said.

    An Aadhaar card, a PAN card, a Delhi Metro card, the registration certificate of a motorcycle, a diary and a purse, among other things, were recovered from him, the ATS said.

    “The arrested accused is being presented before a court, and seven days’ police remand will be sought for him.

    During this period, an investigation will be carried out into bank account transactions and people who had helped in opening the bank accounts,” the statement said.

  • Schools to reopen in Uttar Pradesh for classes 9-12 from August 16 with 50 per cent attendance

    LUCKNOW: Schools in Uttar Pradesh will resume classes 9 to 12 from August 16, but with 50 per cent attendance, according to an order issued by the state government on Monday.

    Apart from this, instructions have also been issued for commencement of classes in higher educational institutes from September 1, the UP government said in a statement.

    “Students of high (class 9 and 10) and intermediate (class 11 and 12) schools will participate in the 75th Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

    And on August 16, teaching-learning will commence in the schools with half capacity, while adhering to the COVID-19 protocol,” Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal told PTI According to the UP government statement, the chief minister has instructed officials to begin preparations for commencement of new session of all educational institutes in view of the controlled situation of the coronavirus in the state.

    The results of Classes 10 and 12 boards have been declared, and admission for the under-graduate classes should start from August 5, the chief minister was quoted as saying.

    In the educational institutes, provisions of sanitiser, infra-red thermometers and masks have to be made, while social distancing and COVID-19 protocol have to be maintained, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.

    With the resumption of the educational institutes, it would be appropriate to organise special vaccination camps for students above the age of 18 years.

    The health department should make all the necessary arrangements in this regard, he said.

  • Veteran leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh meet in Delhi

    NEW DELHI: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav met here on Monday.

    SP president and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son Akhilesh Yadav was also present in the meeting.

    In a tweet in Hindi, Lalu said, “Met the country’s senior most socialist friend Shri Mulayam Singhji and enquired about his wellbeing. We have common concerns and fight about farmers, inequality, the poor and the unemployed.”

    He also tweeted pictures of the meeting, and said, “Today, the country is in dire need of equality and socialism, not capitalism and communalism.”

    Akhilesh Yadav also tweeted pictures of the meeting.

    Sources in both parties said the meeting took place in the national capital.

    Earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav attended Lok Sabha proceedings.

  • Shah praises Yogi Adityanath for /revamped law and order in UP’, says BJP govts work for the poorest

    LUCKNOW: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that BJP governments do not work on the basis of caste, but for the development of the poorest person and to revamp law and order.

    Addressing a function after laying the foundation stone of the UP State Institute of Forensic Sciences here, Shah heaped praise on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for taking the state to the top spot in terms of law and order.

    “The BJP governments do not work on the basis of caste, families, or for the people who are close to them. The BJP governments work for the development of the poorest person and to revamp law and order,” Shah said.

    “For six years till 2019, I travelled a lot in UP. Hence, I know the earlier UP very well. Today in 2021, I can say with pride that Yogi Adityanath and his team have taken UP to the top spot in terms of law and order,” he said.

     

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Uttar Pradesh on August 1

    LUCKNOW: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will travel to Uttar Pradesh on Sunday to launch projects. During his visit, Shah will lay the foundation stones of Uttar Pradesh Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPIFS) in Lucknow and the Vindhya Corridor at Mirzapur.

    According to the official programme received on Saturday, he will arrive at Lucknow airport on Sunday by a special plane at 11:45 am and from there he will proceed via the state government’s helicopter to lay the foundation stone of UPIFS, Pipersand.

    He will also address a function organised after laying the foundation stone of the institute in which intellectual people of the capital have been specially invited, it said.

    According to a BJP spokesperson, Shah might go to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) to enquire about the health of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and former Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh.

    However, there is no mention of his visit to SGPGI in his moment-to-moment schedule. According to the programme, the Union home minister will leave for Mirzapur by a helicopter from Pipersand’s helipad to the Deori helipad site in Mirzapur.

    Thereafter, he will leave for Vindhyavasini temple. After this, his programme till 4:37 pm has been reserved for laying the foundation stone of Maa Vindhyavasini Corridor project and other development schemes, including ropeway.

    Shah will leave for Varanasi from helipad at GD Binani College, Mirzapur at 4:40 pm and will leave for Delhi from Varanasi airport at 5:10 pm.

    BJP MLA from Mirzapur Nagar area Ratnakar Mishra had said on Tuesday that Shah would lay the foundation stone of Vindhya Corridor on August 1 and after that he would also address a public meeting in the ground of Government Inter College in the city.
