    By PTI

DEHRADUN: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday visited his native village Panchur in Pauri distrct for the first time to meet his mother and other relatives after becoming the chief minister.

Tucked behind thickly-forested hills in the Pauri district, the village is barely visible from a distance on normal days, but it shimmered in soft light on the occasion of the visit of its most worthy son.

After visiting his village, Adityanath also tweeted a picture in which he is seen touching his mother’s feet and taking her blessings.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister had not been able to attend even the funeral of his father Anand Bisth on April 21, 2020 in Haridwar, following his death in AIIMS, New Delhi a day earlier amid the country-wide Covid outbreak.

“I had the ardent wish to get a glimpse of my father at the final moment. However, following a sense of duty towards the state’s 23 crore people during the COVID-19 pandemic, I could not do so,” the chief minister had said, ruing his inability to attend his father’s funeral.

“Adityanath, in fact, visited his village for the first time in several years to attend any family function there,” an official said.

Though Yogi has been coming to Uttarakhand to attend political programmes and address public meetings, it is for the first time that he has visited his ancestral village.

He will spend the night in his village and attend the hair tonsure ceremony of his nephew on Wednesday.

Surrounded by his relatives and acquaintances from neighbouring villages soon after arrival, Yogi first spoke to the younger members of his family and distributed chocolates to them.

The chief minister earlier became emotional while unveiling a statue of his spiritual guru Mahant Avaidyanath at Mahayogi Guru Goarkahnath Government College, Bidhyani, Yamkeshwar.

In his address at the function, he said he felt proud while unveiling the statue of his spiritual guru at the place where he was born but could not visit it after 1940.

Adityanath also honoured his school teachers by offering them each a shawl at the function and remembered those who were no more.

  • Journalist held for impersonating Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: A freelance journalist was arrested for allegedly impersonating Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and sending forged letters to several public sector units in a bid to obtain advertisements for his newspaper in 2016, police said on Sunday.

Adityanath was then a Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur.

Accused Manoj Kumar Seth (41) was arrested from his native Bhubaneshwar in Odisha by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police’s Special Cell, they said.

Rajbhushan Singh Rawat, personal secretary to Adityanath, had filed a police complaint alleging that some unknown persons had created a fake email ID using the BJP leader’s credentials.

According to Rawat, the accused had sent emails and forged letters to public sector units such as Power Grid Corporation of India, ONGC and GAIL India.

The accused also attached scanned letters with forged signatures of Adityanath.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra said during the course of the investigation, the fake email ID [email protected] was identified and its contents were analysed to understand the motive.

“The alleged email was with a request to release advertisements in favour of an English newspaper. Similarly, fake emails and fake letters were sent to ONGC and GAIL for advertisement support in favour of another newspaper. Through the IP address analysis and human intelligence, we identified the accused as Manoj Kumar Seth,” Malhotra said.

Police said Seth’s plan had not been successful and that he had been continuously changing his hideouts to evade investigators since then.

Though several raids were conducted at his possible hideouts, he managed to give the police a slip every time.

A dedicated team headed by ACP Raman was constituted to nab him, police said.

“On Friday, Seth was arrested from Bhubaneshwar by our team and during interrogation, he revealed that he is a freelance journalist and also publishes a fortnightly newspaper. He had created the fake email ID and prepared the forged letters to seek advertisement support in favour of his local newspapers,” Malhotra said.

Seth is also involved in a case of extortion in 2020 at Chaliya Ganj police station in Cuttack on the complaint of an executive engineer of the public works department, Odisha, police said.

  • Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath getting my telephones tapped: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav

    By PTI

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of getting his telephones tapped and listening to his talks every evening.

Yadav made the allegation while dubbing Adityanath as the most ‘anupyogi’ (useless) chief minister and seeking to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll formula “UP+Yogi=Upyogi”, aimed at asserting the utility of the Adityanath government for UP’s growth.

A day after a string of Income Tax Department’s raids and searches at some SP leaders’ offices and residences, Yadav also alleged that wary of its impending defeat in the upcoming assembly elections, the BJP government would be misusing various enforcement agencies more and more to persecute SP leaders in days to come.

“All our telephonic conversations have been heard. This ‘anupyogi’ chief minister himself listens to the recordings of some people every evening,” Yadav alleged.

He also asked reporters to “remain alert, if you are speaking to me.”

The entire country knows that whenever the BJP is about to lose an election in any state, the frequency of the misuse of various enforcement agencies by the BJP rises, alleged UP’s former Chief Minister Yadav.

“The BJP is following the Congress’ way. Like Congress, it is rearing to use the central agencies to instil fear (rival among political parties),” said Yadav.

“Seeing the atmosphere in the state, I can say that the Yogi government will not last, The people have made up their mind for a ‘yogya’ (able) government,” said Yadav.

“No government could be more ‘anupyogi’ (useless) than this government, It has ruined Uttar Pradesh,” he asserted.

  • Those raking up partition extending support to Taliban: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath

    By PTI

LUCKNOW: Those who are raising the issue of partition are in a way supporting the Taliban, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday.

His remark is seen as a veiled dig at the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Om Prakash Rajbhar, the chief of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), an ally of the SP, had on Thursday blamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for the country’s partition, a day after saying India would have remained unified had Muhammad Ali Jinnah been made its first prime minister.

Earlier, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had equated Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, with Mahatma Gandhi, Vallabhbhai Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru.

With months to go for the Assembly polls in the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, Jinnah appears to be dominating the political discourse.

Addressing the Samajik Pratinidhi Sammelan here, Adityanath said, “Those who are speaking about the partition are in a way extending support to the Taliban. As soon as the Taliban resurfaced in Afghanistan, a number of voices started to come up in its support. When strong action was taken, these voices went soft.”

“Supporting the Taliban means supporting a power that works against humanity, against Lord Buddha’s message of ‘maitri’ (friendship). Certain people are moving in that direction and we need to be aware of them,” he added.

The BJP leader said those supporting the Taliban need to learn from the past “We should not forget how Buddha’s statues were destroyed in Bamiyan (in Afghanistan) by the Taliban. Breaking the statues of Buddha means trying to put an end to peace. Twenty years ago, when this incident took place, we thought that one day, they (Taliban) will face ‘durgati’ (misfortune). A few days later, the US dropped bombs on them. Back then, I had said they reaped what they sowed,” he said.

Without naming any political party, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, “The opposition does not have any issue to raise…Rashtranayak (national hero) Sardar Patel is on one side and Jinnah, who divided the country, is on the other. They support Jinnah and insult Patel. But we support Patel. He is a rashtranayak while Jinnah will remain a villain for centuries. Will you support those supporting Jinnah?”

Referring to history books, he said, “History never termed emperor Ashoka or Chandragupta Maurya great, but it termed Alexander, who was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya, great. Historians are silent on such issues. However, once the countrymen learn the truth, India will change.”

Showering praises on Narendra Modi, Adityanath said the prime minister is making the country resurgent and the philosophy of “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat” entails this.

Addressing a public meeting in Hardoi, the SP chief had said, “Sardar Patel, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Jinnah studied in the same institute and became barristers. They helped the country achieve independence and never backed away from any struggle.”

  • Ex-BJP MLA Ram Iqbal Singh says Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath will become ‘sadhu’ if loses election

    By PTI

BALLIA: BJP state executive member and former MLA Ram Iqbal Singh on Wednesday took a dig at Yogi Adityanath, suggesting that if he is removed from the post of chief minister, he will go back to being a monk.

“I cannot call ‘tezaab’ (acid) ‘amrit’ (nectar),” he said, apparently referring to the CM who is also the head priest of the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur.

“If Yogi Adityanath is removed from the chief minister’s post, he will immediately become angry and become a sadhu,” Singh said in Nagra area.

He also targeted the Narendra Modi government over the plight of the farmers saying the cost of farming has increased a lot because of inflation.

Singh praised Suhaldev Bharatiya Samaj Party President Om Prakash Rajbhar, and called him “the sole leader of the Rajbhar community.

Singh has been critical of the BJP government in the state and has in the past raised questions over its functioning during Covid-19 pandemic.

He had also accused BJP Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra of running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri incident last month.

  • BJP should transfer Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to Uttarakhand: Akhilesh Yadav

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Taking a dig at the BJP over the leadership change in Uttarakhand, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday urged the saffron party to transfer Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to the hill state.

He said in this way, Uttarakhand will get rid of the ‘daily problem of leadership change’.

Yadav was apparently referring to the change of guard in Uttarakhand after BJP leader Tirath Singh Rawat resigned as the state’s chief minister on Friday after holding the post for less than four months.

He had replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat in March.

Pushkar Singh Dhami was sworn in as the new chief minister of the state following his election on Saturday as the leader of the BJP legislature party.

In Uttar Pradesh, democracy has been ‘injured’ because of the Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath), and in Uttarakhand, democracy has become a ‘victim of instability’.

In this situation, it will be better that the BJP transfer the UP CM to Uttarakhand, so that the hill state gets free from the daily problem of change of leadership, the SP leader said in a statement.

He also alleged that both the states were grappling with law and order problem, women security, unemployment, poor health services, among others.

“There is a decline in the law and order situation in both the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. No investments are taking place in the states owing to political manipulation.

“Unemployment, inflation and corruption is also on the rise since the BJP came to power in the states,” the statement said.

The SP chief added that women are finding it difficult to live with honour and injustice is being done to farmers in both the states.

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: The BJP will win the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, and there should be no doubt about it, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said, after AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s reported remarks that the saffron party will not be allowed to form government in the state.

The Om Prakash Rajbhar-led Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) have announced to fight the elections together.

Owaisi had reportedly said, “Inshallah, (we) will not allow Yogi (Adityanath) to become the chief minister of UP again. If our morale is high and we work hard, then everything will happen. Inshallah, our endeavour is that the BJP government is not formed in Uttar Pradesh.”

Reacting to the AIMIM chief”s statement, Adityanath on Saturday said, “Owaisi ji is a big national leader, he goes to different parts of the country for campaigning, and he has his own ”janaadhaar” (voter base). If he has challenged the BJP, then the BJP worker accepts his challenge.”

“The BJP will form the government, and there should be no doubt on this,” the chief minister said.

He added that the BJP”s central leadership has fixed a target of 300 plus assembly seats in the 2022 elections. The party will win over 300 seats, Adityanath asserted.

  • Yogi Adityanath questions association between Samajwadi Party, criminal over Hathras case

    By ANI
LUCKNOW: Referring to the murder case of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday questioned the association between Samajwadi Party (SP) and criminals in the state.

“Yesterday’s unfortunate incident in Hathras has brought the Samajwadi Party to light again. Doesn’t SP have an association with the accused? Why is there an association between SP and every criminal? There is SP rally in Hathras today and posters for rally put by the accused,” Adityanath said in the Assembly during the debate on the state budget for 2021-22.

Amrish Sharma, a resident of Hathras was shot dead by the main accused, Gaurav Sharma and his friends. The deceased had filed a case against Gaurav Sharma in July 2018 for allegedly molesting his daughter at a village in the Sasni police station area, Uttar Pradesh police said.

UP Police has announced a cash reward for information on the accused in Hathras murder case.

“Out of four accused one (Lalit) has been arrested and we have announced award money over the remaining accused (Rohtas, Nikhil and Gaurav) for their arrest,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Hathras, Vineet Jaiswal told media on Wednesday.

Terming the previous state budgets presented by Samajwadi Party (SP) as “directionless”, Adityanath said, “The Samajwadi Party’s budgets were never welfare-oriented. The party had no agenda for development and no far-sighted vision.”

“From 1947 to 2017, less than 2 per cent of the people in rural areas of the state were linked to household tap scheme. We have got it up to 10 per cent. In the next 9 months, we are coming up with an action plan for 30 thousand villages in Bundelkhand and Vindhya region and implementing the plan for drinking water through the pipeline,” he said.

He also said the provisions for farmers, youngsters and women in the budget document were lauded by various chambers of commerce like the CII, the FICCI, the ASSOCHAM and the PHDCCI.
