However, the Cupertino tech giant may not stop there. According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple surveyed some users as to whether or not they use the USB cable that arrives in the box. This could mean Apple might be preparing to take the USB cable out of the retail box for the upcoming iPhones.

To recall, Apple surveyed users before making the decision to take the USB chargers out of the retail boxes. And it seems like the company could be preparing to do the same with the cables.Additionally, the report claims that the survey also enquired whether users were satisfied with Face ID on the iPhone. The survey was sent to 9to5 Mac by a reader with questions about his experience with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. If users were not satisfied with Face ID and selected ‘no’, they were greeted by alternative options to share with Apple. These options included:

  • Apple to tighten app privacy, remove apps that don’t comply

Apple is stepping up privacy for app users, forcing developers to be more transparent about data collection and warning they could be removed if they don’t comply with a new anti-tracking measure, a company executive and regulators said Tuesday.

The US tech giant said it’s set to roll out the anti-tracking feature next year and warned it could kick apps off its widely used App Store if they don’t obey its requirements.

Called App Tracking Transparency, it will require apps to clearly ask for users’ permission before tracking them. It was due to be launched this year but was delayed to allow developers more time to make changes.

“Its aim is to empower our users to decide when or if they want to allow an app to track them in a way that could be shared across other companies’ apps or websites,” Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said.

“Developers who fail to meet the standard can have their apps taken down from the app store,” Federighi said in an online keynote speech to the European Data Protection and Privacy Conference.

Privacy campaigners say the move is a vital step that could strengthen respect for privacy but tech rivals like Facebook that make money from digital advertising that tracks users have pushed back against the measure.

Federighi said tech users should be empowered to have more control of their data and dismissed arguments from advertisers and tech companies who say the anti-tracking feature will hurt the online ad industry.

  • WhatsApp Rolls Out New Feature to Notify Users About In-App Updates

Instant messaging application WhatsApp has rolled out a new handy feature that will allow WhatsApp to make in-app announcements around new updates.

As reported by a popular website WABetaInfo, the feature is called in-app notifications and it will be used to make new announcements on WhatsApp.

Currently, WhatsApp makes all the new announcements through its blog, however, soon users would be able to directly get these on the app. These in-app updates could direct users to a specific website or even require them to take a particular action. This feature will not be used by WhatsApp for advertising purposes.

These announcements will not be delivered to users via chat instead these will appear as an in-app banner. The first new announcement made by WhatsApp using this feature is the new Terms of Service which state that WhatsApp is releasing their new terms and also sheds light on the main aim of the update.

A previous report said that WhatsApp will be updating its Terms of Service in 2021 and WhatsApp users will have to accept it or they will have to delete their account. The main focus of this update is around how WhatsApp processes user data and how businesses can use Facebook hosted services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats. The update will take effect on February 8, 2021.

If users don’t agree with the changes or the updated terms of service, they will lose access to their account. To delete a WhatsApp account, users will have to go to settings > account > delete my account.

  • 10 popular Android apps that may be ‘dangerous’ to

Despite Google fixing a crucial security flaw in its Play Core library back in April 2020, many Android apps still continue to remain vulnerable as per a report by cybersecurity firm Check Point. Identified as CVE-2020-8913, this vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious code into vulnerable applications, in order to gain access to all the same resources of the hosting application. Attackers can use the vulnerable apps to get access to sensitive data from other apps on the same device, stealing users’ private information, such as login details, passwords, financial details, and mails. While there are many apps, here are the 10 popular Android apps that may be safe to use until the app developers release an update.

To back its claims, Check Point researchers took a vulnerable version of the Google Chrome application and created a dedicated payload to grab its bookmarks. Exploiting the vulnerability, someone can grab cookies to use them as a means to Hijack an existing session with 3rd party services, like DropBox. Once a payload is “injected” into Google Chrome, the payload will have the same access as the Google Chrome app to data, such as cookies, history and bookmarks for the data, and password manager as a service. It is advisable that users update their Google Chrome app immediately.

  • YouTube will remind users to ‘keep comments respectful’ before posting

YouTube is taking new steps  to weed out bullying, hate speech and other kinds of nasty comments. The company introduced a new feature that will remind users to “keep comments respectful,” when its automated systems detect a comment may be offensive. The change is rolling out now on Android, and will eventually move to other platforms, though it’s not clear when.

The feature is similar to one recently implemented by Instagram. Before a comment is posted, a pop-up will appear with a reminder to “keep comments respectful.” The user will then be able to edit the comment or post it anyway. The company notes that seeing the reminder doesn’t necessarily mean a comment has violated its rules or that it will be removed.

The update is part of a larger effort by YouTube to reduce hate speech and make its platform more equitable for all its creators. In addition to the new pop-ups, it will also test a new feature for YouTube Studio that automatically filters out “potentially inappropriate and hurtful comments” to make it easier for video creators to avoid seeing them.

The company will also undertake a new effort beginning next year to evaluate bias in its monetization features. YouTube says that while it’s “heard concerns” from some creators, it doesn’t currently have a good way to look into these claims because the company doesn’t have data on how its video creators identify.
