Washington DC witnessed a key diplomatic gesture as Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra welcomed Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi to India House on Wednesday, setting the stage for his upcoming series of strategic engagements.

The Embassy’s post on X captured the moment: General Dwivedi, fresh from high-profile visits by other top military leaders, arrived for discussions that continue the momentum of India-US military diplomacy. This exchange reinforces the defense pillar of the bilateral Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, geared towards a secure Indo-Pacific.

Defense relations are expected to gain further traction, promoting regional stability through sustained high-level interactions.

General Dwivedi’s itinerary kicked off in Hawaii, where he engaged with US Army Pacific’s Commanding General Ronald P. Clark. The talks focused on deepening cooperation and aligning strategies for Indo-Pacific peace.

A highlight was the Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter upon his arrival, coupled with an aerial reconnaissance of Oahu, offering a close look at advanced training and operational capabilities.

ADGPI’s X update detailed how these interactions aim to fortify India-US ties amid evolving regional dynamics.

Echoing this momentum, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh’s recent visit to the US saw him hosted by General Kenneth Wilsbach. Starting April 8, the trip included honors at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and Pentagon sessions with top US Air Force brass.

Conversations highlighted the strategic value of the partnership in fostering an open Indo-Pacific, with praise for India’s role in multinational drills.

As General Dwivedi prepares for Washington deliberations, these engagements underscore a commitment to interoperability and resilience, marking a new chapter in Indo-US defense synergy.

Tensions have marked US-India relations, yet they remain crucial partners against escalating global threats, says H.R. McMaster, ex-US National Security Advisor.

Speaking exclusively, McMaster called the relationship ‘rocky’ unnecessarily so, stemming from Trump-era disagreements on trade and recognition for mediation in India-Pakistan standoffs.

Persistent trade frictions persist, but solutions lie in collaboration, he asserted. India’s neutral position in the Russia-Ukraine conflict irked Washington, with UN abstentions sparking questions tied to post-Afghanistan trust deficits.

India navigates dilemmas of overcommitment versus isolation, McMaster analyzed, recommending US reassurance efforts. Dependence on outdated Russian arms complicates defense tech transfers, a point underscored by battlefield failures in Ukraine.

China’s border incursions and economic coercion bind the two nations strategically. Cultural ties and the thriving Indian-American community bolster connections.

McMaster envisions enduring strength in bilateral ties, positioning the duo as inevitable allies in a multipolar world.

In a significant diplomatic move, US Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau begins his four-day India sojourn today, headlining the US presence at the 2026 Raisina Dialogue. This visit highlights the strategic convergence between Washington and New Delhi at a time of global flux.

From March 3-6 in New Delhi, Landau will spearhead efforts to advance President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda at India’s premier geopolitical conclave. Jointly hosted by MEA and ORF, the event has evolved into a must-attend for international dignitaries over the last decade.

Landau’s agenda extends to bilateral huddles with Indian counterparts on key fronts: vital minerals supply chains, anti-drug trafficking initiatives, and deepening economic linkages for better US market entry in India. These discussions reinforce a common goal of fostering a thriving, rules-based Indo-Pacific.

Meanwhile, S. Paul Kapoor, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, wraps up his New Delhi stay today after three days of talks on Indo-Pacific security dynamics. The US Embassy notes these engagements accelerate the momentum toward a strong, reciprocal US-India alliance envisioned by President Trump.

India-US bonds have strengthened remarkably, with breakthroughs in defense pacts, Indo-Pacific cooperation, and inclusions like rare earth minerals, next-gen tech, and energy resilience. Kicking off March 5, the Raisina Dialogue will dissect global hotspots: realigning alliances, safeguarding economies, AI’s rise, climate crises, and sustainable energy paths.

Anticipating heads of state, cabinet ministers, CEOs, security specialists, and scholars, the forum promises candid exchanges. Landau’s trip reaffirms America’s pivot to Asia, leveraging India’s rising clout to counterbalance regional pressures.

With West Asia on edge, the United States is doubling down on its alliance with India. Two high-ranking diplomats are dispatched to New Delhi this week, reflecting urgent diplomatic maneuvering in a volatile world.

Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, touches down March 3 for a four-day stay. His mission: spearhead the American team at the prestigious 2026 Raisina Dialogue. Expect talks with senior Indian officials on Trump’s flagship America First agenda.

Key agenda items include bolstering defense ties, securing critical minerals, and combating narcotics. Efforts will also target expanded economic opportunities for US firms and a united front for an open Indo-Pacific region.

Timing is everything—these moves coincide with heightened West Asian strife, framing India as a pivotal player. Concurrently, S. Paul Kapoor, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, wraps up his March 1-3 visit, emphasizing Indo-Pacific security dynamics.

India’s Raisina Dialogue now stands as the nation’s top-tier forum for strategic discourse, attracting international heavyweights. US participation affirms New Delhi’s rising influence.

A decade of progress marks US-India relations: landmark pacts, Indo-Pacific synergy, and ventures into vital minerals, tech innovations, and energy resilience. New Delhi’s ongoing deliberations promise to fortify these pillars further.

In a strong endorsement of its strategic vision, the United States has declared India the bedrock of South Asia and the western Indo-Pacific region. Delivering prepared remarks to a U.S. House subcommittee on South and Central Asia, Paul Kapoor, Assistant Secretary for the region, detailed how the Trump era’s ‘America First’ approach amplifies trade pacts, defense alliances, and investments with New Delhi.

Trump’s National Security Strategy calls for prioritizing U.S. supremacy through proactive partnerships in critical zones, Kapoor explained. Speaking ahead of his testimony, he credited presidential guidance for mutual benefits in economics and defense across alliances.

The sheer scale of South Asia demands attention: India alone hosts over one billion residents, shaping the subcontinent’s dynamics. Kapoor stressed that unchecked dominance by adversarial forces here could trigger worldwide economic disruptions—a scenario America must prevent by championing a free, open Indo-Pacific.

India stands out with its geographic heft, demographic power, and dedication to regional openness, anchoring stability from South Asia to the Indo-Pacific’s western flank. Bilateral momentum is accelerating via elite diplomatic exchanges and collaborations in defense, tech, and energy sectors.

Kapoor spotlighted breakthroughs like the decade-long U.S.-India Defense Framework, innovative TRUST programs, and India’s acquisitions of U.S. drones and LNG cargoes. Trade surged forward with a historic Trump-Modi pact last week, complemented by a fresh U.S.-Bangladesh deal unlocking export opportunities.

Kapoor mapped a trio of capacity-building strategies: fortified defense ties, precise investments, and diplomatic outreach. Pakistan, another vital ally, collaborates with the U.S. on resource development, blending government funding with private insights.

Nations such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan—strategically positioned yet vulnerable to pressure—require bolstering. Flagging debt-trap risks, Kapoor called for joint initiatives to foster partner autonomy, fortify U.S. defenses, and drive national prosperity.

As China’s influence grows in economics and security, South Asia anchors U.S. Indo-Pacific ambitions. India’s starring role via defense synergies, group engagements, and trade booms cements it as a linchpin partner in this high-stakes chessboard.

Washington witnessed a landmark push for critical minerals security on February 4, as India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar voiced robust support for international collaboration to derisk supply chains. Speaking at the Critical Minerals Ministerial, he addressed the perils of over-reliance on concentrated sources, advocating for systematic global partnerships.

India’s initiatives took center stage in Jaishankar’s speech: the National Critical Minerals Mission to map and exploit domestic resources, development of rare earth corridors for efficient transport, and adherence to responsible sourcing practices. He also pledged backing for the ‘Forge’ program, a US-led effort to fortify allied supply networks.

Echoing these sentiments, US Vice President J.D. Vance called on allies to unite in rearchitecting the critical minerals marketplace. He likened these resources to indispensable fossil fuels, cautioning that current chains are brittle and geographically limited, fostering instability that hampers long-term commitments.

Vance illustrated with examples of market floods that plummeted prices, bankrupting ventures overnight. With attendees accounting for two-thirds of world GDP, he urged collective action: ‘We are one team.’ His blueprint includes a secure trade bloc with stage-specific reference prices, backed by tariffs to thwart predatory dumping.

This framework promises price steadiness, investment revival, strategic foresight, and crisis preparedness. As tensions rise over mineral dominance—particularly from China—these moves could redefine energy transitions and technological sovereignty, positioning India as a key player in diversified, democratic supply ecosystems.

A powerhouse trade deal between India and the European Union has sent ripples through Washington, prompting soul-searching among US policymakers. Together, they command a quarter of global GDP and a third of world trade, with bilateral exchanges hitting $25 billion—less than the $45 billion with the US, but enough to spark serious concerns.

Prominent senators and administration figures fear marginalization. The FTA, they say, will redefine global commerce and alliances, bypassing American interests. Arizona Senator Mark Kelly blamed Trump’s ally alienations on X: EU-India pact, Canada-UK China talks—all fallout from past diplomacy.

New Delhi’s announcement dubbed it historic. Ursula von der Leyen envisioned a 2-billion-person free trade bloc, a beacon in turbulent times linking top economies. Trump-era Treasury chief Scott Bessent vented on CNBC, slamming EU’s tariff hesitancy: ‘Very disappointing,’ he deemed their pivot to India.

Experts at ITIF call it a stark reminder of US lag. Rodrigo Balbontin notes flaws—Europe’s Digital Markets Act biases big tech, India’s IP enforcement lags—but potential upsides if it trims trade barriers. ITIF cheers the democratic duo’s bond against protectionism, eyeing China as prime foe.

Atlantic Council’s Mark Linscott cautions against overreaction. Phased rollouts mean slow gains; thorny topics shelved for later. Domestic approvals loom large. Crucially, no damage to US-India or US-EU trade foreseen—in fact, it could catalyze fresh US-India negotiations.

This saga traces back to 2007 talks, frozen over duties and access, rebooted in 2021. As India and EU charge ahead, Washington’s reactions underscore the imperative for strategic recalibration in a multipolar trade landscape.

In a candid critique of US foreign policy, American entertainer Mary Millben has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s masterful handling of bilateral tensions with the United States. Speaking from Washington, Millben positioned Modi as a paragon of diplomatic poise on the world stage.

‘PM Modi’s dignity and calculated diplomacy have solidified his global reputation, especially during this era of US-India friction,’ she stated. Millben, a White House regular for two decades across five administrations, has long admired Modi’s moral compass, humility, and innovative mindset.

She specifically praised his restraint when the US threatened steep tariffs, prompting India to forge deeper links with new global partners. ‘Sometimes, silence is his greatest strength,’ Millben observed, pointing to bolstered India-Russia, India-China, and now India-EU relations.

The landmark India-EU trade agreement, Millben described as a geopolitical milestone affirming sovereignty and freedom in democratic commerce. Her words carry weight from years performing for presidents from Bush to the present, fostering encounters with global titans.

While respecting President Trump personally, Millben disagreed with his administration’s anti-India rhetoric. ‘America must behave like a friend and ally,’ she insisted, committing to ongoing advocacy. She stressed shared histories as the world’s oldest and largest democracies bound by sovereignty.

Directly imploring Trump, Millben said: ‘You know I respect you deeply, but change course now. Seek forgiveness from PM Modi, mend fences with India, honor our 4.5 million Indian-American community, and restore your international standing.’

Millben envisioned US leadership in peace through partnerships with India and Europe. She reflected on lessons from White House service: true superpowers need steadfast friends. Amid ongoing trade disputes, she highlighted progress in defense and tech collaborations as a foundation for future harmony.

In a series of powerhouse meetings, US Ambassador Sergio Gor brought his first Mumbai visit to a close, connecting with titans of Indian industry and governance. The itinerary featured dialogues with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, Mukesh Ambani of Reliance, and N. Chandrasekaran of Tata Group, plus pharma leaders and religious figures.

Posting on X post-visit, Gor enthused, ‘Mumbai visit complete – a resounding success! Engaged with CM Fadnavis, RBI’s Malhotra, Ambani, Chandrasekaran, pharma execs, and faith leaders. Momentum surges in trade, technology, education, energy, and resilient supply chains amid thriving US-India ties!’

These encounters unfold against a backdrop of strained US-India relations in Trump’s renewed presidency. Experts caution that escalating frictions from US policies risk backfiring on America itself.

Gor began the trip buzzing with anticipation at the Mumbai Consulate. ‘Thrilled to start my first Mumbai visit at our consulate. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to bolster US-India partnership,’ he wrote.

A standout was the session with Fadnavis, captured in shared images. Discussions zeroed in on elevating bilateral relations in business, investments, entertainment, tech, manufacturing, energy, and healthcare. Fadnavis noted the productive exchange on increasing American investments in the state and Maharashtra companies’ US expansion, spotlighting projects like Navi Mumbai International Edusity.

‘Pleased to host US Ambassador Sergio Gor and CG Michael Schrueder at my official residence in Mumbai. Excellent discussions on deepening Maharashtra-US collaboration,’ Fadnavis stated. Consensus emerged on joint efforts to fortify this vital partnership.

As diplomatic overtures intensify, Gor’s tour exemplifies strategic diplomacy at work, fostering opportunities that could redefine economic interdependencies between the superpowers.

In a move that underscores the strengthening US-India economic alliance, Ambassador Sergio Gor arrived in Mumbai for his inaugural official trip. His agenda featured pivotal meetings with Maharashtra’s top leaders, starting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The centerpiece was a dialogue on elevating bilateral engagement across diverse industries—trade, entertainment, advanced technology, manufacturing, renewable energy, and healthcare. Gor shared snapshots of the interaction, captioning them: ‘Fantastic meeting today with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. We discussed prioritizing our strategic partnership in key areas like trade, investment, entertainment, tech, manufacturing, energy, and health. So much we can do together.’

Responding warmly, Fadnavis posted about hosting Gor and Consul General Michael Schruder. He detailed conversations on ramping up US investments in Maharashtra and facilitating greater market access for local firms in America. Key highlights included briefings on transformative projects like the Navi Mumbai International Edusity, with mutual commitment to advancing the partnership.

Gor’s itinerary was packed: an insightful exchange with RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra on tech-driven collaborations, followed by a session with Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran. ‘Thrilled to meet RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra—discussing areas to deepen cooperation, including state-of-the-art US tech,’ Gor wrote. On Tata, he added, ‘Productive talks with Tata Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, a powerhouse with deep US roots.’

Launching his visit from the US Consulate General, Gor commended the staff’s role in bilateral progress. As Maharashtra emerges as India’s investment magnet, these engagements pave the way for transformative deals, blending American innovation with the state’s industrial prowess.
