In a boost for India’s innovation ecosystem, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded IIT Madras’s consortium-led model during a Sunday visit to its Research Park. He noted its effectiveness in rapidly commercializing technologies, a strategy gaining traction across universities and institutions.

Exploring the ITEL Foundation and cutting-edge labs, Dr. Singh delved into initiatives spanning urban transport solutions, aerospace innovations, healthcare devices, and neuroscience. ‘Involving industry from the research inception ensures solutions are grounded in reality,’ the minister observed.

This framework, he added, streamlines the journey from lab discoveries to viable products. Launched in July 2024 as a Section 8 entity backed by the Department of Science and Technology, ITEL bridges academics, businesses, and funders to propel deep-tech from concept to commerce.

The visit featured a compelling showcase of the HASHTIC project, deploying AI-powered mini electric vehicles on overhead tracks to conquer city gridlock, potentially halving travel times for typical 15 km trips. Attention also turned to Agnikul Cosmos, the incubated space venture pioneering adaptable launch systems.

With ISRO and IN-SPACe backing, Agnikul’s first orbital mission triumphed in May 2024. Preparations are underway for a reusable rocket debut later this year, exemplifying private sector momentum in India’s burgeoning space industry.

Dr. Singh’s visit reinforces the power of public-private synergies, positioning IIT Madras as a blueprint for nationwide tech progress and global competitiveness.

In a boost to Delhi’s public transit ecosystem, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the ultra-modern Electric Receiving Substation for the Delhi Metro adjacent to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. The project, completed in just 18 months, equips several lines with reliable electricity, averting potential outages.

Gupta lauded the DMRC’s efforts, assuring comprehensive support to propel metro growth. ‘This substation ensures no line faces power deficits,’ she told reporters, praising the metro’s reputation as a trusted urban lifeline.

Daily ridership stands at 35 lakh, peaking at 65 lakh during transfers, making it indispensable for millions. The CM outlined plans for further extensions, noting cabinet approval for three new 16-km corridors on the Magenta Line extension, budgeted at Rs 12,015 crore.

During the ceremony, Gupta planted trees and delved into operational details with engineers. Accompanied by Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the inauguration signals stronger government-metro synergy.

As Delhi Metro evolves, such innovations fortify its position as a model for sustainable transport, promising smoother commutes and reduced congestion for the national capital’s residents.

Jharkhand is rapidly emerging as a preferred destination for global industrial players seeking sustainable investment opportunities. This was emphasized during a strategic meeting between Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Cecilia Oldne of the Sweden-India Business Council. The state government is keen on moving beyond its traditional role as a mineral exporter to become a hub for manufacturing and green technology. The Swedish delegation expressed a strong commitment to partnering with Jharkhand, citing the state’s proactive policy framework and its vision for sustainable industrial growth as key factors attracting international interest.

The meeting focused on practical collaborations in infrastructure and urban mobility. One of the standout outcomes was the plan for a high-level roundtable in April, which will focus on modernizing urban transport systems and exploring sustainable financing solutions. The Chief Minister also emphasized the state’s commitment to social welfare through innovation. He proposed a partnership with Swedish experts to assess the feasibility of introducing e-cycles for government school students. This initiative aims to provide eco-friendly and efficient transport for children in remote areas, aligning with Sweden’s global leadership in green mobility solutions. Both parties expressed optimism about the long-term impact of this international partnership on the state’s economy.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Azim Premji, the founder-chairman of Wipro, seeking assistance in alleviating traffic congestion on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), particularly near the Iblur junction. The Chief Minister proposed allowing limited vehicle access through the Wipro campus to reduce road congestion. The letter was sent on September 19th. Siddaramaiah highlighted the severe traffic jams during peak hours on the ORR, negatively affecting commutes, productivity, and the overall quality of life in the city. The proposal suggests a collaborative approach, contingent on mutual agreement and necessary safety measures. According to initial assessments by traffic and urban mobility experts, allowing certain vehicles to pass through the Wipro campus could potentially reduce traffic congestion by up to 30% during office hours in the surrounding areas of the ORR. Siddaramaiah urged Wipro to engage in discussions with government officials to formulate a mutually beneficial plan. He believes this partnership would contribute to making Bengaluru a better city.
