  • UP: Woman raped after being fed intoxicants, accused arrested

    ETAH: A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man after being given intoxicants by another woman, who is a close relative of the victim, in the City Kotwali police station area here, police said on Wednesday.

    City Kotwali SHO Pankaj Misra said an FIR has been lodged and both the accused, including the victim’s relative, have been arrested.

    The victim, who filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday, alleged that she was given intoxicants and raped by the man six months ago with the help of her close relative and a video was also made, police said.

    The victim said she was forced to stay silent after being threatened that the video would be put out on social media.

    The woman also said that she was being blackmailed and raped multiple times for the past six months.

    It was when the accused rapist, a resident of Firozabad district, uploaded the video on social media that the victim refused to listen to him anymore and complained to the police about the issue, the police said.

    Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Singh said they had acted promptly on the complaint with the arrests made in the last 12 hours and further action is being taken.

  • Molestation accused kills girl’s father in UP’s Hathras, two held

    HATHRAS: Amrish Sharma, a resident of Hathras, was shot dead by another man against whom he had filed a case in July 2018 for allegedly molesting his daughter, at a village in Sasni police station area on Monday, Uttar Pradesh police said.

    According to the police, an FIR has been registered against four accused, two of whom have been arrested.

    “On March 1, at around 4 pm, information was received at Sasni police station that in Nojalpur village, a man named Amrish Sharma had been shot by Gaurav Sharma and his friends. Amrish died on his way to the hospital,” said Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hathras.

    The SP said that the police reached the incident spot and an investigation was carried out on Monday.

    “During the investigation, it came to light that in July 2018, Amrish Sharma had filed a case of molestation against Gaurav Sharma, who was sent to jail but he came out on bail after one month. Both the families were having a dispute since then,” Jaiswal added.

    Speaking about the incident, the police official said, “The wife and the aunt of the main accused Gaurav Sharma and both daughters of deceased had gone to temple in the village. They had an argument there over the old case. The accused and Amrish Sharma came there later where they argued and the accused shot the latter, who died while being taken to hospital.”

    The SP said that teams have been formed to nab the remaining accused and further investigation is underway.

  • Uttar Pradesh man kills 60-year-old wife after argument over drinking

    BHADOHI: A man enraged by his wife’s admonitions over his drinking habit, allegedly beat her to death in Ramnagar village under Durgaganj Police Station area here, an official said on Thursday.

    The incident took place on Wednesday night when Banvari Musahar, who was under the influence of alcohol, had a heated argument with his wife, Mulaima Mushar (60), SHO Ramji Yadav said.

    He beat her with a lathi and hit her on the face with a brick, the officer said, adding that the accused kept assaulting his wife till she died.

    He then threw the body in a drain about 100 metres away from his house, the SHO said.

    When their son came home on Thursday morning and enquired about his mother, the accused told him about the incident and fled, police said.

    An FIR has been lodged and the body was sent for a post mortem examination, Yadav said.

    A hunt has been launched to nab the culprit, he added.

  • ‘Burnt alive after failed rape bid’: 21-year-old Uttar Pradesh girl tells officials

    LUCKNOW: The 21-year-old college student, who was found lying unconscious and severely burnt along the highway in Shahjahanpur, claimed that she was set ablaze by her friend’s brother-in-law on resisting his attempt to rape.

    On Wednesday, she gave her statement before a magistrate at a Lucknow hospital. The police have detained all three persons named by her.

    According to Shahjahanpur SP S Anand, the girl alleged that Manish, brother-in-law of her friend Pinki, and his two accomplices first tried to rape her in a field near Rai Kheda village but she foiled their attempt and tried to escape.

    They caught hold of her and poured kerosene and set her on fire on Monday, she said.

    The SP, meanwhile, said the victim had been frequently, changing her statements. Over a dozen college students were questioned so far in connection with the incident. 

  • Brother of village head strangulated in UP’s Pratapgarh

    PRATAPGARH/BUDAUN: The brother of a village head was strangulated in Bichhur village in Fatanpur area in Pratapgarh district, police said on Thursday.

    The body of Virendra Yadav alias Rahul (24) was found outside the village on Thursday morning, Assistant Superintendent of Police Surendra Dwivedi said.

    Prima Facie it appeared that he was strangulated, he said.

    The body was sent for a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death, police said.

    The victim’s brother Jitendra Yadav is the head of Bichhur village.

    In a separate incident, a woman was hacked to death by her husband in Gangoli village in Faizganj Behta area in Budaun district, police said.

    Usha (45) was allegedly killed by her husband Hardev, who is mentally unstable, following a dispute, Assistant Superintendent of Police (rural), Siddharth Verma said.

    The police have arrested the accused and seized the weapon used in the crime.

    The body of the victim has been sent for a postmortem examination, Verma said.
