  • Four dead as bus hits truck amid dense fog in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao

    UNNAO: Four people were killed Monday morning when their bus rammed into a truck in the midst of a dense fog cover in Unnao on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, police said.

    Superintendent of Police Shashi Shekhar Singh said the bus was going from Rajkot in Gujarat to Nepal. The accident occurred in Auras area of Unnao. 

    A blinding fog cover engulfed a large part of the state this morning.

    With visibility reduced considerably due to the fog, the bus hit the truck from behind on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway around 5.30 am, Singh said.

    He added three male passengers of the bus died on the spot, while one woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. Efforts are on to identify the deceased persons.

    According to Singh, there were 60 passengers on the bus. Six injured passengers have been hospitalised.

    The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

  • Three killed, 8 injured in multi-vehicle pileup on Lucknow-Agra Expressway

    AURAIYA (UP): Three people were killed and eight others were injured as three vehicles piled up on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early Monday morning due to dense fog, police said.

    The accident occurred in Erva Katra police station area in which a truck, a sleeper bus and a car crashed into each other, police said.

    A joint rescue operation from police teams of different areas is underway, they said.

    The injured have been sent to Saifai Medical College, police said, adding efforts were on to identify the deceased.

  • UP: Speeding truck hits Gandhi statue, damages structure

    BANDA (UP): A statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Attara township here was damaged when a speeding truck rammed into it in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

    The police have taken the truck driver into custody in this connection and seized the vehicle.

    The statue, located at Gandhi Chowk in the township, got damaged when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and hit it around 3 am on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Laxmi Niwas Mishra said.

    Atarra police station SHO Veer Pratap Singh Chauhan said further action is being taken after apprehending the driver.

  • 5 devotees run over by truck as their tempo turns turtle after hitting tractor trolley in UP

    SHRAWASTI: Five devotees, including four women, were run over by a truck when their tempo turned turtle after hitting a brick-laden tractor trolley at Buddha Circuit area in the district, police said on Saturday.

    Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Maurya said the accident occurred late on Friday night when 9 people of Utraula in Balrampur district were returning from Dargahm Sharif in Bahraich.

    In Narayanpur village, the tempo rammed into the stationary tractor-trolley and it overturned.

    All the passengers of the tempo fell on the ground and they were run over by a truck.

    “Five passengers died while three others got seriously injured,” Maurya said.

    The deceased were Nizamu (35), Kitabulnisha (71), Parveen (25), Rubina (25) and a 50-year-old woman, the police officer said.

    The injured, Saira Bano (40), Aasma (25) and Basyauddin (25), have been sent to the medical college in Bahraich for treatment.

    According to a statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives.

    He also directed the local administration to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured.

  • 18 killed, 25 injured after truck rams into bus in UP’s Barabanki

    BARABANKI (UP): At least 18 people were killed and 25 injured after a truck hit a double-decker bus here, police said on Wednesday.

    The incident took place under Kotwali Ramsanehighat area late on Tuesday night.

    The private bus was on its way to Bihar from Ludhiana in Punjab, they said.

    The axle of the bus broke down and it was parked on the road when a speeding truck coming from behind hit it, killing 18 people on the spot and injuring 25 others, the police said.

    Some passengers were standing outside the bus while others were sitting inside at the time of the incident, they said.

    Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and the rescue operation is underway.

    The injured were rushed to the hospital with the help of locals, Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone, S N Sabat said.

    It was raining heavily when the accident took place and this posed some problems in the rescue operation, he said.

    Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and directed officials to extend all possible help to the victims.

  • At least 18 killed after truck rams into bus in UP’s Barabanki

    BARABANKI (UP): At least 18 people died after a truck rammed into a bus near Ram Sanehi Ghat in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

    As per Satya Narayan Sabat, Additional Director General (ADG), Lucknow Zone, 19 people injured in the accident have been hospitalised.

    “A truck rammed into a bus near Ram Sanehi Ghat In Barabanki, late last night. About 18 casualties were reported with many passengers sustaining injuries. A total of 19 injured have been admitted to the district hospital,” he said.

    The ADG said that a rescue operation to recover bodies stuck under the bus is underway.

    The double decker bus, en route to Bihar from Haryana, was parked on the side of the road at the time of the accident with passengers inside it.

    “The bus driver had asked passengers to rest while he was repairing the bus. Soon after, a truck collided into the parked bus resulting in many casualties,” added Sabat. 

  • Four killed as car overturns after hitting road divider in Agra

    AGRA: Four people were killed and two injured after their car rammed into a road divider and turned turtle in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, police said on Wednesday.

    The accident occurred near the Rehankal toll plaza on Yamuna bridge under Etmadpur police station area late on Tuesday night, they said.

    Inspector Anuj Kumar Saini told PTI that the car rammed into a road divider around 10.30 PM on Tuesday after one of its tyres burst.

    The vehicle overturned after losing balance.

    “There were six people in the car. They were returning from a birthday celebration,” he said.

    Saini said the deceased have been identified as Ashish (19), Arshad (19) and Nikhil (18).

    A 16-year-old boy was also killed in the accident.

    All four of them were residents of Agra city.

    The injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, he said.

    The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination, the police said.

  • Two killed, 6 injured as bus hits roadside tree in UP .

    SHAHJAHANPUR: Two people were killed and six others injured when a private bus carrying labourers crashed into a roadside tree here on Thursday morning, police said.

    The bus was on its way from Chandigarh to Kushinagar, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai said.

    The deceased have been identified as Ganesh (38) and Govind (25), hailing from Kushinagar and Gorakhpur, the SP said, adding the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

    The injured have been admitted to a hospital, Bajpai said.

  • RPF constable dies trying to save woman from incoming train in UP

    KAUSHAMBI: A head constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was killed after being hit by a train while trying to save a woman at Bharwari railway station in Kokhraj area here, police said on Wednesday.

    The incident took place on Tuesday night when Nirmala Devi (40) was crossing the railway line.

    RPF head constable Gyanchand tried to save her from an incoming Prayagraj-Delhi train but got hit by it and died, Additional SP Samar Bahadur Singh said.

    The woman has been rushed to hospital, where her condition was said to be stable.

    A probe is on in the matter.

  • Over 20 injured as double-decker bus falls into gorge in UP

    BAREILLY: At least 25 people were injured after a double-decker bus fell into a 20-ft deep gorge at Ata-Bibiyapur here, police said on Saturday.

    The bus was carrying 80 passengers, they said.

    “The bus was heading to Delhi from Shahjahanpur when the accident took place Friday midnight. Twelve ambulances were sent to the spot to take the injured to hospitals,” Dharmendra Kumar, SHO, CB Ganj Police Station said.

    He said the accident took place after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to thick fog.
